Joanna Newsom – Peach, Plum, Pear Lyrics
|
to me, peach plum pear is about a woman meeting a past love in a public setting (grocery store...) but, i do not think their relationship was shallow in the least bit. i related this, myself, to the relationship between julia and winston in the book 1984. when they meet in public for the first time in a year since they were punished for their sexual encounters with one another, they have to pretend nothing happened. i don't know, it fits to me. "we were swallowing panic in the face of its force" reminds me of Big Brother and everything it enforces. BUT THEN, i look at the part that says "and the gathering floozies afford to be choosy" and it contradicts the notion of poverty and lack of freedom with products. so maybe i should just take the song as it is... a very nice, sad love song. |
