arg... why is this band not more well known? i love this song, i had it stuck in my head for about a month. i think it's about dissatisfaction with america and politics. washington is lying, hollywood turns anything that was art into plastic, and america as a whole just watches the war like it's a sitcom. there are no more heroes. |

This song makes me cry everytime, because it makes me think of us picking up my brother from his mother's house. especially the part about the roast beef combo, because we don't have much money and don't get out much, so it totally reminds me of my father assuring my brother that he can order something and that he doesnt have to pay. ...yeah |

i think this song is about commitment. the dog walks the same path over and over every day, and he's saying that he wants to give in to that life of routine with the person he's singing to, hence: "cause I want to wear the path that's true and I want to wear the path with you " and the lines about putting their teeth in the same jar, settling down and buying a house and a car, etc. |

this song is about me. plain and simple. because i relate so much to it, this is what it means to me: i have a lot of anxieties, and it's insanely hard for me to do simple little things like go to the store and buy milk or go to a party or just keep my life together. i feel like the main character has difficulties doing little things like that, and she watches everyone else in her life pull them off so easily, and she feels like they're maybe flaunting it. but yeah, maybe it's just me. |

I always pictured her as being a girl from a small town in montana who leaves the rural town in order to make it on her own, but not as an actress. She get's a temporary job as a waitress, but the pressure of paying for bills on her own forces her to get stuck in a rut. The customers are sleazy, and nobody sees her for the beautiful soul she is. The soul crushing job leads her to drugs ("scores on the way"), hence the weight loss ("her bones and the truth show"). I picture the narrator being a guy at the diner who clearly sees that she's just not meant for this town. |
