I love this song. And I also love the irony of it, critiquing the intellectualism they themselves engage in so heavily. As someone who is in my final year of undergrad studies in anthropology (with a lot of women's studies stuff too) I can really relate to this. I mean, I have a definite love/hate relationship with the academy and the overly-intellectual bent my studies are taking. I've come so close to dropping out, but at other times think about going to graduate school too (which probably isn't happening anytime soon). Oh, and this song plays in my head all the time while in class whenever Foucault or Adorno or anyone else of that bent is mentioned during lectures. It's distracting. Oh, and I'll admit, I, and probably most everyone else in my classes only has the most basic understanding of any of these people's ideas, so we really are just posing as intellectuals I feel. It's all so true. |

One of Anti-Flag's best songs. Mainly because they ripped it off of one of my favorite bands. Seriously, go find "Reaction" by From Ashes Rise it should be on their myspace and on youtube and listen to it. |

Basically just paying respects to lots of cool queers in the punk scene. I like the mention of Josh Plague since my friend lives right next door to him :) |

| Defiance, Ohio – Eureka Lyrics

It's about Eureka, CA, the biggest city in Humboldt County. It's still pretty small, but it's bigger than, say, Arcata (where I live). Notice the references to weed, speed (we call it EurTweaka for a reason), Old Town (the nice little area in downtown with antique shops and stuff), fog, stench, and pulp mills (from logging). Definitely about Eureka, CA. I've heard a rumor that one of them used to live up here, so it wouldn't be surprising for them to write a song about this place. |
