| Nickel Creek – When You Come Back Down Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| My family is a very close-knit unit and when I branched off to go to college (I'm the oldest of 2 girls), my dad helped me move in every box to my dorm. When we had finally gotten every last one up 8 flights of stairs, he handed me an envelope. He said, "Don't get your hopes up, there's no money in there-just a song that I think goes perfectly for us during this time." He hugged me in that parking lot and I felt his chin quiver on my shoulder. I lost it--it was so bittersweet to have such a supportive family (I'm forever grateful for their love) but at the same time the separation anxiety is hard to overcome! Anyways, when I got up to my dormroom, alone without a single friend yet made--I downloaded the song and read the lyrics. After each stanza he wrote his interpretation and modified it as necessary. After the "Crash and Burn" line he said "I hope not, but if it happens, I'll be there." I'm embarassingly enough crying as I type this, because this song means more to me than any other out there. I love reading different interpretations, and can understand all of them (I was so moved by yours, Grey_Street), but for me this will always be me and Daddy's song. AND I definitely plan on it being our dance at my wedding. Need to get engaged first though, ha! | |

so you can make any lyrics apply to your personal situation...so for me at this point in my life right now, i see these lyrics as a conversation between a couple breaking up to discover who they each are on their own, because they've become intertwined as one person after being together for so long. maybe the girl was a little uptight at first, and the guy kind of got her to come out of her shell... guy: You get the car, I'll get the night off You'll get the chance to take the world apart and figure out how it works Don't let me know what you find out (*he doesn't want HER answers, he wants to find out about life on his OWN*) I need a car You need a guide who needs a map (*the guy is basically telling the girl that all he needs is a car while she needs someone to be with her, with something navigating how to get there*) If I don't die or worse I'm gonna need a nap at best I'll be asleep when you get back Then the girl: I wanna see it when you find out what comets, stars and moons are all about I wanna see their faces turn to backs of heads and slowly get smaller I wanna see it now I want specifics on the general idea I wanna think what I should know I want you to do me what to show (**this whole segment, I gather, is like he is motioning this idea of splitting up to find themselves, and all she wants is someone to tell her how it's done "want you to do me what to show" or needing "a guide who needs a map" but all in all, the guy wants them each to find THEMSELVES on their OWN*) *the movies/dreams is either/or for guy/girl* guy: I wanna see it when you get stoned on a cloudy breezy desert afternoon I wanna see it untame itself and break its owner (*he wants to see her let her guard down...break the black/white RULES and just BE*) that was soooo long sorry |

this song is so beautiful and so addicting; it's been sitting on repeat for a while on my laptop now... ...going through a rough patch right now with my boyfriend (ex, whatever...) he wants his space, but i wanted to be together...i told him to take the space he needed. in the car, i heard this lyric, then skipped back and listened again and again, it home so much! "You’re okay in your secret place, With no one bothering you. It might save time if I meet you there, but I don’t care I’d rather wait for you." |

| Rilo Kiley – Does He Love You? Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| i love that regardless of individual interpretations (all of which i find interesting and praise-worthy), this song is different because it takes the point of view from the other woman, and the listener doesn't hate her, she relates to her. all the other songs about affairs are bashing on the cheating people, or talking about how 'no bitch better mess with my man' or whatever...this song is FROM the 'other woman' and she admits defeat, becomes vulnerable...it's like an entire twist and deviation from the social norm out there in music-land where we sing about the heart-breakers and horrible women...now we relate to the horrible woman, and admire her for admitting her loss. | |
| Don Henley – The End of the Innocence Lyrics | 17 years ago |

first of all, it's DEFINITELY about Reagan, not Nixon. Though when I saw him live this past year, he changed 'tired old king (Reagan)' to 'fresh young prince (Bush)' AND changed the line 'since daddy had to lie' to 'since LIBBY had to lie' (scooter libby). don henley rules. aside from politics, and before i cared about politics, this song tapped into a sense of childhood. i remember going to my grandpa's farm, just relaxing, and then the transition from innocent childhood to rough adolescence to the trials of young adulthood. it's deep, and wonderful, all at the same time. |

i think it is a crying shame that the depth of this song as been compromised to a direct comparison of a fictional couple off of a pop sitcom tv show. give me a break! the lyrics here are so deep, so beautiful, and carry so much truth. my favorite lyric: "but the moment has passed by me now/to have put away my pride and just come through for you some how" ....it's like he knows that he waited too long. he held on to his pride and didn't go chase the girl he loves just because of his ego, and he wishes he had. it's so beautiful! |

| Joni Mitchell – Shine Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| can't believe there are no comments!!! this song is beautiful! joni mitchell is amazing, and even at her older age she still can top any other female artist! her lyrics flow beautifully, and i love that they are politcally-charged. | |
| Joni Mitchell – Come In From The Cold Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| this is one of my all time favorite songs, it taps into a pure sense of nostalgia and innocence...not wanting anything bad, just pure. | |
| Counting Crows – Mr. Jones Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| i love the dylan reference, 'i wanna be bob dylan' and then saying that everyone loves dylan, because EVERYBODY DOES. way to pay your respects, counting crows... | |
| Built to Spill – Liar Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| this song makes me step back and realize that in the big scheme of things, nothing matters... i know that sounds harsh, but it's actually therapeutic. kind of a more poetic 'don't sweat the small stuff' but everything is small stuff....and mother nature has been around way longer than us, and will be for way longer than us, and she doesn't care about the daily drama of our lives...it's absolutely beautiful. | |
| Built to Spill – Reasons Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| i think this song is more than just a love song--rather than thinking it's the exciting new stage of a relationship, i think it's about loving somebody after being apart and going through hard times. granted, lyrics are up to interpretation (hence this website), but i think the part about colors, shapes, and sizes all being changed refers to the changes that each person goes through molding to better fit the other, and how it takes a lot of work, but in the end, "there's nothing else i want to try"...which you only know after seeing what else is out there. :-) | |
