This song is extraordinary. One thing that hasn't been mentioned is the string arrangement: awesome. I like the lyric variation "sad, Li" instead of "sadly" which would be plain bad English?

Fully agree with TheAcidSound. This is the most cruelly underrated band ever (probably along with The Move and Dave Clark 5). And they maintained quality until the end of bands life which cant be sad of many superstars.

This is an awesome song. It is clearly about insanity, but being Syd probably rather "from" insanity. References to sex probably very true as well and filled with the usual colorful or semi-fictional characters.

Arnold Layne is extraordinary because of subject matter, performance, arrangement, sound: everyhting superb in just one song. BTW, as good as Dave Gilmour is, he can´t even touch Syd who is in a league of his own.
