| The Decemberists – Dear Avery Lyrics

There was an article in Time that was published about the new album in which Meloy explains this and a few of the other songs on the album. He said that this song was inspired by the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
From the "Time" article:
"They're kids," he says. "If you're a parent of one of these people, you just want to grab them by the scruff of their neck and yank them out of it. When they're that far out of arm's reach that must be devastating."
--Colin Meloy
If you re-read the lyrics, this definitely makes sense. |

| The Decemberists – A Bower Scene Lyrics

Hmm..i guess i overlooked the "thou" as the "sister" making a comment regarding the baby. As I'm finding, the more I listen to the first four songs it seems like she (Margaret) could have been one of the sisters (nuns) of the bower...either that or taken in as one, and that jenamariem is probably correct. I've just never heard "cistern" be referred to has a basin of holy water. Mostly a cistern is something that collects rainwater or is a sac inside an organism usually filled with water (thus my reasoning for it being the amniotic fluid around the baby.) |

I think that the baby actually was born...and I'll get to why in the upcoming songs. I also think that in this song they are reminiscing about when they met and how they created their baby. The only reason im not sure about whether or not the baby was born or not is they never refer to the baby after this song...if the baby was born it wouldn't be much of a deal other than the fact that the decemberists don't mention it in any of the other songs. But if it wasn't born then margaret would still pregnant when she is captured and when she dies... |

| The Decemberists – The Hazards of Love 2 (Wager All) Lyrics

Considering I thought in the last song that Margaret was going into labor and was calling for William to help her...i think this is probably him comforting her. Maybe helping her give birth and helping her through the pain by singing this song to her. If you notice, the tune of hazards of love has changed for this song and i think its because its a different type of love for william...a love for his child and for Margaret. |

| The Decemberists – Won't Want for Love (Margaret in the Taiga) Lyrics

Yeah, margaret definitely NOT raped. and im pretty sure she is pregnant as well. So margarets in the taiga and shes missing william and wants the forest to call him because she needs him to be with her. Now personally, the more i listen to this song the more i think she is going into labor in this song. Almost as if she is calling for william so that he can be here for her during the birth so she isnt alone. Whether or not this is true im not sure...but considering the baby has been moving a lot inside her and she may "swoon from all this swelling" this is my best guess. |

| The Decemberists – A Bower Scene Lyrics

As continued from Hazards of Love I:
A bower is a lady's house...kind of like a sorority, I'm guessing. Anyway, Margaret is obviously not getting over William and is unconsolable. I do like the previous comment about the sister being a nun...but im not sure if its right. Not to mention what cistern means. I personally cistern (which means 3 different things) Cistern I believe in this context is talking about the amniotic fluid around the baby (as in the water...) And basically yeah...who's the father?...obviously william. So Margaret leaves the bower before her pregnancy becomes too noticable.

| The Decemberists – The Hazards of Love 1 (The Prettiest Whistles Won't Wrestle the Thistles Undone) Lyrics
| 16 years ago

I'm going to attempt to interpret the entire album. it just helps me understand what is going on... Anyway here's what I think of this song.
This is probably best explained as the scene in which Margaret and William meet. Upon their first meeting they both succumb to temptations and end up making love right there in the taiga. I'm still trying to figure out what "The Prettiest Whistles won't wrestle the Thistles Undone" means. My guess so far: Marget= Whistle. William = Thistle. As in William usually isn't tempted by woman, except for Margaret. William probably thought Margaret would be a one time thing...but obviously she meant more to him (hence the REST of the album...) idk. just my interpretation. |

| Mae – Soundtrack For Our Movie Lyrics

The song is about how he's pretending he is in a movie...and in his imagination he is "orchestrating the song to accommodate the moment". Hasn't anyone done that? I do it all the time. Anyway, he is creating a "soundtrack" to what their lives would be like in a movie. Such as in a movie they try to pick the perfect songs for the scene, he is creating a soundtrack in his mind of the perfect soundtrack for their togetherness. This is by far my favorite Mae song ever!! |

At first I thought she was making fun of religion. But then I realized she was actually just singing about the questions many of us ask God ourselves. My favorite part is the end with the opposites. Love ya Immy! |

Love the song. I love the line about the mom catching them eating ice cream at 3 in the A.M.
For those of you who want a little more clarification:
The girl is on vacation with her family. He is friends with her but would like to be more. He is nice to her family and couldn't bear it if her family hated him because then he couldn't spend time with her. He misses her terribly and wishes she was back with him/he was with her. Not exactly sure about the whole straw wrapper thing. But overall, cute song!! |

| Frou Frou – It's Good to Be in Love Lyrics

When I first heard the song, I thought it had something to do with domestic violence. Hence the line "You're so beautiful, I'm black and blue all over
You're breaking my flow
How could you know what I'm saying about it?". However, as I listened to the song again a few more times, I realized it was about her being in love with someone who was taken. She loves the person so much that she will put on a smile and try to be happy for the person she wants, but on the inside she hates being the bystander. She wants so badly to be the one he loves, but knows that if she tells him the truth, that she may lose whatever little of him she has to hold onto. love the song though! |

| Imogen Heap – Goodnight and Go Lyrics

First off, I love this song! Almost everyone/anyone can relate to it or could relate to it at some point in their lives. To me it is about how a person has a friend who they secretly like, however the friend is unsuspecting about the person's feelings. It's one of the most perfect songs about having a crush, I have ever heard! Go Immy! |
