I love this song. I remember Don Henley giving a lot of interviews to promote this album when it came out years ago. I think this info is from GQ(he was on the cover). The Heart Of The Matter was written about longtime girlfriend Maren Jensen. (He dedicated many of his solo albums to her. ) He explained how she would wake up in the morning and he would have a hangover from drinking and writing songs with his friends all night. How much she put up with his bad behavior and she did eventually leave him. She's also in his video "Not Enough Love In The World". Wonder what she thought of the song? Amazing lyrics ... |
