| Rainbow – Stargazer Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I'd also like to add that I agree with locria's theory that the "we believe" line seems to be more of a persistence of hope of freedom than an eagerness for the wizard to succeed. They never lose hope that they will one day be freed, and they believe. | |
| Rainbow – Stargazer Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
the "wizard" enslaves a group of people ("In the heat and the rain With the whips and chains") to construct a large structure ("We built a tower of stone With our flesh and bone") for him to achieve something great. The purpose of the tower is unspecified. after construction, the wizard "climbs to the top the world", insinuating that he mounted the structure and he is high above the ground and attempting to make it to some heavenly body (a star?). but unfortunately "No sound, as he falls instead of rising Time standing still, then there's blood on the sand". although the direct implication is that the wizard literally fell from the tower and perished, the line "as he falls, instead of rising" also suggests that he didn't achieve his goal, whatever it was, and instead of succeeding ("rising") he fails ("falls"). But the next line also shows that he literally fell as well, so to add insult to injury he falls off the tower right after realizing that his goal was not reached. the protagonist now mocks him and his legacy ("Where was your star? Was it far, was it far? But why In all the rain With all the chains Did so many die Just to see him fly"). But now he realizes that he has no direction, and wonders where he will go from here, now that he is freed from bondage. he sees "a rainbow rising...on the horizon" and the rainbow is a symbol of hope that gives him back "[his] will" to move on, and now he's "coming home" |

| Iron Maiden – 2 Minutes To Midnight Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| the opening guitar riff of this song is borrowed from Dio's "Stand Up And Shout", from the Holy Diver album (released 1983) | |
| TestAmenT – Return to Serenity Lyrics | 17 years ago |

does anyone else see similarities to this song and "Beyond The Realms Of Death" by Judas Priest? "I'm so alone, My head's my home" "I am safe here, in my mind" and there's a bunch of more stuff. |

| Motörhead – Orgasmatron Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
It's about a lot of things and figures that manipulate and deceive us, notably priests, politicians, rulers, dictators, etc. The first verse references Christianity and how it's violent and cruel against Gays, Jews, etc.("Two thousand years or misery, of torture in my name"). It also mentions the Heaven/Hell/Sin concept ("Hypocrisy made paramount, paranoia the law"), about how if you don't live your life by a certain code and follow set laws, you will be damned for eternity. The second verse obviously references corrupt politicians, and the third references proud dictators and rulers who rule with an iron fist and have Nazi-like pride for their country. Yep, that's one bad ass song. |

| Overkill – The Years of Decay Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think you really nailed it, emmerder. This is Overkill's best ballad, and possibly their greatest song. I'd like to add that this song is also about growing up being told lies that whatever you set your mind to can be accomplished, but then you grow up and realize that you don't have the world at your fingertips and you rarely accomplish your hopes and dreams ("Promised the world, as your world changed before your eyes."). | |
| Overkill – Frankenstein Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| this song is called "frankenstein" because it was literally frankensteined by putting a variety of different pieces together into one song. I like this song a lot, it's got good bass and it doesn't stay the same for long. | |
| Ozzy Osbourne – I Don't Know Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| it's pretty straightforward. this song is about religions and choosing the right one and being under pressure from your peers and stuff, and being unsure about which [spiritual] path in life to take, because you're pretty skeptical about all of them. | |
| Motörhead – Ace Of Spades Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| this song is awesome. it's using gambling as a metaphor for life. | |
| Motörhead – Overkill Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| so few comments for such a legendary song? you should see the live performance of this song- the one where they just jam for 8 minutes before finishing the song. the song itself is obviously about the andreline rush you get when you're on stage in front of the world. there aint any other way you can interpret the lyrics | |
| Overkill – Shadow of a Doubt Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
i don't know if it's just me or some weird co-inkydink, but the line "Cover them in roses Cover them in lies Dress them up in persecution Best believe your eyes" sounds very similar to the lines in the chorus of necroshine |

| black sabbath's best song with ozzy is war pigs. the best one with dio is this song. | |

| Motörhead – Death Or Glory Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| a kickass "rockumentary" of the devastating wars and battles through the ages like the persian-greco wars, trojan-mycenean wars, french wars, world war 1, world war 2 and the battles at berlin and stalingrad, crusades, indian wars, etc. i used this for my skating bails video (youtube.com/kornhead12) | |
| Motörhead – Motor Head Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| nice song, as the guy said, it's about the drug "speed", which, along with "acid", lemmy was notorious for using back in the ol' days. just a good thing he didn't pull an ozzy osbourne on us, otherwise we wouldn't have masterpieces like this and stone dead forever. also listen to "speedfreak" off of the ace of spades album, which is also about speed. | |
| Metallica – Sanitarium Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| well, i figured out why this "sanitarium" has so little comments...because everyone commented on "sanitarium(welcome home)". why there are two of the same song i dont know | |
| Metallica – One Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| the first time i heard this song, i thought it was about the tragic demise of cliff burton. now that i take into account the whole "johhny got his gun" crap, i now think that the story of the cripples soldier is metaphorical of the cliff burton death or else any other tragedy that happened to the band, because i don't think "it's just about this one dude who stepped on a landmine and got his face blown off" is not good enough an explanation. it's unlikely of metallica to have such a great song be so "one" dimensional | |
| Metallica – Sanitarium Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
wow only 6 comments for such a heavy, badass song? i think this song is about a man who is thought to be deranged and eventually becomes deranged by the cruelty of the conditions in the mental hospital and the doctors and nurses, and his pitiful, angst-ridden life in the "sanitarium" culminates in a rebellion against the doctors by the mental patients. think of it like an innocent person being put in jail- same concept. |
|
| Metallica – Disposable Heroes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think this song is just about foot soldiers who are forced to the front by their generals and/or presidents to die, and who are abused and mistreated and their efforts in the war are forgotten and unappreciated in the big scheme of things.I think that directly applies to the situation today- Bush sending people off to their death, and people blindly following whatever their superiors tell them, even if it's having to face the oncoming enemy to die | |
