It almost seems as if it was not just bout one person but a situation affecting more than one person but a group of people, such as the people of Ireland ( the bands home country). Its about the common family that resides there ... when the recession hit Ireland was hit very hard ... many people lost there jobs and thus hard times such as those described were faced. So it would seem this song is not just to describe the peoples situation but to also inspire them to make light of the situation. But in general this song is describing the situation back home in Ireland |

I was gonna say that this song was about the common family/couple back in Ireland when the recession hit ... i personally was in Ireland this past spring and not only saw but chatted with locals and heard about how much people were losing there jobs. So this i could see could directly relate to the song. |

i personally thing it is about a wedding hence "We meet here for our dress-rehearsal to say " I wanted it this way".... and "these strangers whose faces I know" talks about how at weddings there alot of people your supposed to know but you really don't.......... the rest of the song talks about all the thoughts that are running through his mind. |
