Elliott Smith – No Name #6 Lyrics 16 years ago
I think the song is about replacement theory; about someone who decides to make over things by running away from their problems, but finds out along the roadtrip that it's as useless as a solution as anything else.

Elliott Smith – Bled White Lyrics 16 years ago
The song is about Depression and Regressing; being so miserable you're forced to climb back into patterns of old habits and alleviating the sadness with alcohol because he runs out of more creative ways to "doctor" himself. This time around, he catches himself in the act and chooses to take a different route.

Elliott Smith – Ballad of Big Nothing Lyrics 16 years ago
I think the song is about pessimism, running people away with attitude and meladrama, and a person just being an overall bastard and being so stuck in their ways. Someone who can't enjoy anything and is always a downer, even in the festivities of a parade. Not too sure how people got drugs out of this...

Elliott Smith – Good to Go Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is one of his best vocally... The symbolism is excellent. Sounds like it's about not knowing when to let go of someone and let the memory of them gradually decline.

Elliott Smith – Bottle Up and Explode Lyrics 17 years ago
This song sounds like it's about a relationship, and knowing how to choose your battles and when to shut up so as not to cause the downpour that an argument brings

Elliott Smith – Division Day Lyrics 17 years ago
I think jumping off the bridge is symbolic for escapism. Like the narrator is running from his repetitive mistakes and this is his only solution.

Elliott Smith – Alphabet Town Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is about a one-night stand; a big shift from his usual material. Think about it....

Elliott Smith – Cecilia/Amanda Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is about neglectful parenting

Elliott Smith – Everything's Okay Lyrics 17 years ago
Elliott used a lot of direct things and images to symbolize a deeper feeling. The song is about a man in love with a prostitute, it's about the denial and agony from a relationship, but more directly, it's about co-dependance

Elliott Smith – A Living Will Lyrics 17 years ago
This song sounds like it's about a person refusing to die in the hospital and in the arms of well-wishers. The narration, the verses are sequential and begins with a decision, the preparation and leaving, and falling asleep on a train on his route out of town.

Elliott Smith – Go By Lyrics 17 years ago
This is the kind of fucking song that makes people cry... lol... Through all the mysticism of Elliott's lyrics, there's a reoccuring theme of troubled love. Sounds like this one is about miscommunication in a relationship and the contempt in the ignored disasters, and since things became so royally dismissed, and knowing the problem and the solution, and the futility in speaking out of anger because the outcome will be inevitably unchanged

Elliott Smith – 2:45 AM Lyrics 17 years ago
Sounds like it's about overcoming the personal failures of his character and how he copes with being emotional. Like here's a side of him too weak to control the outlandishness of his addictions.

Elliott Smith – Georgia, Georgia Lyrics 17 years ago
Yeah, this is a direct suicide song, about the loss of someone, presumably "Georgia"... More of an outsider's perspective. Someone the narrator was close enough to, to be immensely affected.. Bit of a correction, for what it's worth, the beginning is: "Georgia, Georgia, it's many many miles, since I seen your fallen smile...."

Elliott Smith – Abused Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is so royally fucked up... Beautiful, in it's own brief, haunting ambiance though. The lyrics are real concise and expressive, and his wordplay is genius. This song sounded like it took hours, days, and months of bottled up personal attachment.

Elliott Smith – King's Crossing Lyrics 17 years ago
Maybe it's just me, but this song seems to be indirectly about Elvis Presley. But maybe the emotion of the song, or Elvis for that matter, is an archetype for some elaborate symbolism about the end result of fame and burning yourself out. Knowing the worst is coming and still meeting it halfway. Oh yeah, and the last line is "Don't let be buried away"... fits the motif

Elliott Smith – No Name #4 Lyrics 17 years ago
This song sounds like it was painful to make. I do know a lot of his songs evolve from metaphors, like Single File, but this one has a quiet reality to it.

Elliott Smith – St. Ides Heaven Lyrics 17 years ago
... A very direct, emotional poetic reality of alcoholism. Been there, the moon really is a fucking "lightbulb breaking"

Elliott Smith – Let's Turn the Record Over Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is about drug addiction, it's not as fungmastaflex intended it. Each day from one drug to the next, heads down to Bonnie Brae [one of the most notorious drug corners in United States, in Los Angeles] and selects a drug of choosing, the premise is although life is harder, drugs apparently aren't the easiest fucking solution; Still the addiction, or rather the pusher, is always present

Elliott Smith – No Name #3 Lyrics 17 years ago
This song sounds like a beautiful ode to sleeping. With lines like "Our mouthes were opening -[Yawning], Everyone is uptight - [mood shifts of fatigue]," the song places the narration from arriving sometime around dawn, and passing into a world of sleep. I love this fucking song... It's easy to play as well

Elliott Smith – Satellite Lyrics 17 years ago
In a more direct definition, "Satellite" means a person who "follows and observes others," and the song appears to solidify this. The subject in this song is someone that alienates the rest of the world with this armor of attitude for their inner-isolatory problems.
