I listened to this song x's a million after my ex and I broke up. Certainly a song to sympathize with one's emotions after that.
It's her telling about the stages of her relationship - she wished for him, she got him, and now that she has him no longer she wishes for him again Things have turned awkward and sad, and whenever they see each other the distance seems bigger between them, and the recognition seems to always be a little dimmer than the last time because they are both changing but what happened between them is still there and still affects her. "I want your warm but it will only make me colder when it's over" - means that she understands the relationship is over, but she is sorry it had to be that way. So beautifully sad. |

Dropping a nickel could represent money; or a careless mistake that one makes to get over a boundary (Caesar crossed "the Rubicon" after a famous battle and it signified his glory). To me, this song is about how one overcomes momentous things in one's life, and that all the change one goes through, such as herself, leaves her wanting only more and more change. She can't handle constant things and has spent a long time wallowing in one new place at a time. It is about turning over a new leaf, a new version of oneself just in an attempt to try to fix what one feels oneself has ruined. She is blaming herself for something, and "version" implies that she has changed many times, though this time she is stronger and has learned to deal with whatever is thrown at her, despite her weak feelings about change. |
