I just saw a video of her singing this on YouTube and the lyrics are much easier to understand. She says "I'm blue without my green." And she definitely is singing "Take a toke, and all my love."
There are no credits for this song in the liner notes, so I thought she wrote it, but apparently it's not original to her. Someone on YouTube said she wrote the lyrics, but I'm skeptical. You know how much misinformation is on the net! |

I'm not convinced that the man is older or younger--I think her remark about hating her age so much probably means that she's so young and vulnerable and this is her first rejection and she's not handling it well. If she were writing as an older woman she definitely wouldn't have said, "I observe, I don't chase." She knows that she will have a long string of lovers eventually, but this rejection really stings. (She tries to put on a brave face with "I'm not as into you as I appear to be.") |

Oh, this is very tongue-in-cheek! Hear the sweet flute around the bridge? "What do you expect? ... You wouldn't want me to be lonely." She's playing innocent. But the final joke is "love is blind" so it didn't really matter what he looked like. . Now she's got her bf by the 'nads as she "explains" why it happened--it's his fault for leaving her alone. God, this woman is brilliant! |

The lyrics aren't printed in the liner notes, so I'm just guessing, but it sounds like "Take a toke (and) all my love." Also, I agree that it sounds like "blue without my green." Definitely a song about weed. Lovely lyrics and tune. |

Interesting, isn't it, that the kitchen floor is mentioned in two songs on the album: "You Know I'm No Good" and "Some Unholy War"?
"Just us on kitchen floor" and "Justice done"--she likes homonyms, doesn't she? |

There's nothing "unconsciously" lesbian about it; it's obviously a tease to the man she's singing to: suggesting that she's found a hot new girlfriend with a pickup that puts his to shame. In the end she comes clean and admits it's her new guitar. |

Ironic, isn't it? This song came out in 2003, before Amy's descent into drug abuse, but with a couple of changes, it could be what her brother would sing to her today. She's the irresponsible one now, breaking her mother's heart. |

I took it to mean that she would stand beside Blake through his legal battles, e.g. arrests for drugs, assault, suborning witnesses, and so on. It's pretty common to feel that the authorities have declared war on recreational drug users. |
