From the musical "Hair", in which freedom and peace is said to be ushered in with the Age of Aquarius. It is an astrological age that will begin sometime between 2150 and 2595 depending on who you listen to. The New Age movement in the 1960s believed the time to be at the cusp of the Age of Pisces, hence the "dawning of the Age of Aquarius". The dawning would involve radical change as some in the 60s attempted. The promise of rapid technological and sociological advancement was consistent with the idea of peace and brotherhood. Contrast with Zager and Evans' "In the year 2525", in which dire predictions are made instead. |
