| Daughtry – September Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I was first drawn to this song by its title, "September." It was more poignant than I expected. My brother and I didn't get along until a few years ago, and the summer of 2008 was the first time we had lived in the same area since I was 8 years old (some 13 years previous). I always knew the memories of that summer would be particularly vivid, as it was when he and I truly became best friends. On September 3, 2008, my dear brother, my only sibling, died unexpectedly. It was the second day of my college classes, and I thought about calling him all day before I heard the news. "Now the days are so long that summer's moving on We reach for something that's already gone Of all the things I still remember Summer's never looked the same The years go by and time just seems to fly by But the memories remain We knew we had to leave this town But we never knew when and we never knew how" I will forever grasp for something that's already gone, and those memories before that September will forever be bittersweet. He was the one who pushed me to leave this town, and my college town. I do it now in memory of him. I hope he's proud. |

| Dispatch – Two Coins Lyrics | 17 years ago |

The first thing that hit me about this song was "two coins of your eyes." Immediately, I started thinking about the Greeks, who placed a coin on each eye of a dead person to pay the boatman to cross the River Styx. The moment you know about that symbolism, the rest of the song makes sense. After losing someone close to you, your life is filled with loneliness. Lips...well, probably a girl he loved. He still feels her presence in his life, and wishes he could share the hard moments with her. When he wants to remember her, to feel like she's with him, he pulls out those memories, tangibly symbolized by the two coins. Drinking from the cup also makes me think of the classical tradition (which is still used by some) to spill some wine or drink on the floor for the gods (now, in remembrance for lost friends). More death imagery. Beautiful...beautiful song. |

| Ray LaMontagne – Be Here Now Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song really makes me think about loss and how you have the chance to pull out of the pain and depression that loss can cause, especially death. Gorgeous lyrics, and gorgeous music. His voice is absolutely haunting, and just stays with you. It's perfect to convey the emotions and message. | |
