That's an interesting perspective, but due to songs like "By Torpedo or Crohn's" and Yoni mentioning sickness in a multitude of other songs, I think the song is about Crohn's Disease. I posted an interpretation a few posts up, coincidentally using a lot of the same points. In regards to the hair loss, it could be due to malnutrition or the medications people have to take to combat Crohn's, as some can cause hair loss. Your guess is as good as mine, though. |

In my opinion, this song sounds like it has to do with the vocalist having Crohn's Disease. The whole first half of the song makes me think of somebody with a chronic sickness feeling exhausted and maybe getting laid up in the hospital again. The line that stuck out to me the most was: "When I felt my ribs come closing slow, a row of snakes set to strangle" Crohn's is an Inflammatory Bowel Disease which causes it's suffers to often experience tremendous abdominal pain. When I look at it from this perspective, most of the song seems less cryptic than it originally did. Even the line "A gift from the Maccabees to mom to me" is tangible in the context of Crohn's, as a study to see if genetics increased the risk of developing the disease found that people from a Judaic back-round were more likely to inherit Crohn's, confirming the study; and the "Maccabees" were a Jewish rebel army. I see it as him referencing his heritage as a way to say that due to genetics, his mother was more likely to develop Crohn's and he developed it later in his life as well. Or I'm completely off. |
