I really like a lot of people's take on the whole American hypocrite thing. I had an idea that was slightly different though and this is it: "She" is referring to mother nature. "let the water come shes the only one i love" Water is part of mother nature "let the fat man drop shes the sweetest honey pot" Mother nature creates food and honey. So essentially, she's the sweetest food. People get fat off of the food that originally comes from her. This also starts to show a dark side of humanity and the problems it's creating using mother nature, as it is referring to a "fat man". Obviously, people are abusing their privilege to food by taking too much. "will they see the sky again? who will sing their blues for them?" This line is referring to the people of the future, when the skies are overtaken by smog due to our inability to control pollution in the present day. "let the factories rust shes the only thing i trust" The factories can go ahead and rust because we trust mother nature to take them back over but what we don't realize is that it's really harming her. "let the virus spread shes the silk lining my bed" The viruses can spread all they want, the present day people trust mother nature to take care of them (their bodies to be able to combat the viruses) but they don't think about the people of the future who might not be able to defend against them. An example is antibacterial soap which kills most bacteria but the some bacteria can combat against it, which under evolution eventually makes bacteria develop a resistance against our protection against bacteria...thus, the virus is spreading even though we trust mother nature to protect us against it at our weakest points such as in our bed. "will they breathe our air again? who will sing their blues for them?" The people of the future will be unable to breathe the bacteria-ridden, smoggy air we are producing right now. They might die, and who will be there to mourn them? "when youre feeling moved you can have your conscience all you want you cant say I do nothing I put it off" When you feel like global warming and pollution to the Earth is happening, you can feel that way because we put it off by recycling and being green and thus we feel good about ourselves. However, "I", (we) are not taking all the necessary action to really help the Earth, we're just putting off the inevitable and "you" know that. "where are you going to go if they come for you? will there be someone left to sing your blues?" Where will you go if the ice caps melt, if landfills pile up and infest the planet, if pollution and bacteria make the air breathable? If that happens, will anyone survive? |

This is a very beautiful song! It's my favorite on the CD for sure and it gives me goosebumps b/c it is just perfectly composed. Of course it has something to do with heartbreak. And by just listening to the song, I think that the lyrics "you taught me how/how it can feel like love" are not saying that the narrator was not in love, but maybe that he felt the person he was in love with loved him (because it felt like it) but there was betryal, so it couldn't have been love, it just felt like it to him. I have been really wondering what the muffled soundclip says as well. The skyexlosion, the woman does sound like she might be saying that. She definately says "question me" and "stop" and I think you heard it right, or either we both need to get our ears cleaned out. lol. However, no one commented on what the muffled male voice in the beginning said. It sounds like he's saying "Just a minute. [leave?] him." He definitely said "him" though. | The Killers – Under the Gun Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I think all of you have a good idea of what this means. I've been thinking a lot in the past day about what this song might mean, and I came to the conclusion that I do like the car crash idea. However, the lines "She just can't stop telling lies" and "she's got a criminal mind" prove she's alive. I believe they were in the car accident together. He was being "stupid on the streets of London" by drinking. "James Dean in the rain" either he had an accident in the rain around the time she died so that he was found out by the police, or did something just as reckless. According to the police, she is dead. However, he doesn't think she is. He believes she framed him for intentionally killing somehow ("She's got her halo and wings hidden under his eyes", "she's got a criminal mind" and "but that remains to be seen"-he hasn't seen the evidence) and then escaped. However, the evidence says she's dead so she's "An angel for sure" but he thinks she's not ("but she can't stop telling lies") "His life is under the gun" because he's supposedly, intentionally in some way, responsible for her death and therefore under the death penalty. "And only she can set him free" means that if she comes to prove that she's alive she can lift his charges. "Kill me now" is him begging them to just go ahead and get his death penalty over with, because he can't stop thinking about how much he loved her and apparently her betrayal really hurts him because he knows he never would've killed her ("But it's too late for his love Already caught in a trap his Angel's kiss was a joke", "without her it's not the same" "She keeps him tied up to a dream"-the dream of being free) Also I believe "she's an angel for sure" has a double meaning in this song b/c it also proves that he loves her, and it's like him trying to convince himself she'd be an angel if she were dead and that would justify her kiss wasn't "a joke" |

| The Killers – Tranquilize Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I love this song so much!! It is a VERY deep song. However, there are so many different meanings that could be interpreted by it, it's impossible to say just one view...unless you're talking politics I guess. Generally, I think this song is about deception and lies in general and how they give you a restricting or "tranquilizing" feeling. I really think the most beautifully composed part of the song is when "Tranquilize" is echoed and it sounds like, "lies, lies, lies, lies..." The "children singing" effect also gives it that kind of playhouse-gone-wrong feeling. |

lol. I thought this song was about a guy haunting a girl. I was wrong, but now that I've thought about this new idea... Everybody has a nice explanation for this song. However, I think one part is a misinterpreted by many... "Your heart, not able Let me show you, how much I care" I think this means they both love each other so much that she is not able to hold his love for her as well as her love for him; therefore he wants to show her how deeply he loves her. Also, this is my interpretation for this part: "Don’t give the ghost up just clench your fist You should have known by now You were on my list (x3)" Don't give up, be strong for me! You should know how important you are to me after all we've been through. |

| Keane – We Might As Well Be Strangers Lyrics | 17 years ago |

This is such a sadly-beautiful song. It makes me cry just about everytime I listen to it. For me, this song is about a person whom I treated badly and ironically fell in love with afterward. Although we were friends again, he changed dramatically and he's not the friend I knew. At the time I was finally getting over all of this, he gave me this CD and gave me the gift of having Keane as my favorite band. It's a beautiful and sad irony. |
