The first time I listened to this song with the video, I saw in it a 1984, BIG BROTHER meaning. To me, this song is mostly about the post-911 world with all of the confusion that has followed that event.I THINK there is a frame or two of one of the world trade center buildings in the video's first verse. Anyway, "Flash that buttery gold" could be the 9/11 explosion, and also refer to the greed of some while the rest of the world lives in "the swamp" like the "frogs and flies". Once the "swamp" is stirred up, they strike out in anger. The war-torn beach and the 'cash=cow" that is beef is about the US invasion of Iraq.
The second verse seems to be about how easy it is to turn a blind eye to the Have-nots of the world, and how easily the rich and powerful pass judgement and then sentence those who have less. And then there are those who don't condone this OR stand against it because they have been lulled to sleep and apathy by having everything they want, all the time.
The third verse seems to refer completely to suicide bombers and others who act with such anger and hate because they too have been fooled by the powerful and money=hungry of their cultures.
In the end we are victims of our government and we are war-like because we would all rather not see the ugly truth that we helped to create.
In the chorus a person who sees things as they are but feels powerless is waiting for the end when what comes around finally goes around.
