Yeah, i agree with "sometimes you just can't be a man too." This song is my favorite Ryan Adams song and I love Ryan, so that's no small feat. I feel that this song is a story. It's bittersweet and sends emotion all through you when you listen to it. No family is perfect, and their are often many sides to one story, so I agree with a few of the comments here. I think that the daughter and the guy in the hotel room have a failed relationship, and i believe that their break-up was ultimately his fault. But, the daughter could have made a bigger deal out of it partially *because* of her dad and the things she's been exposed to. That's why i believe that she "ran away," she hoped for happiness, but whatever happen between her and her husband/boyfriend/fiance' made her swear off love. I also agree with the statement that you'd *feel* the song even if there were no lyrics. The guitar at the end almost moves me to tears everytime i hear this song. Ryan is a genius! |

Ryan Adams is one of my favorite artists of all time! Strange lovers moan Each other's names on by ? sheets? (the lyric is Each other's name on by the hour sheets) I think that's one of the most important words (hour), because it makes me feel as if the song is about a "working woman" or prostitute. I agree with Gabriel, i think it's a beautifully written song about someone who chose a career (prostitution) and she is unhappy with it. "Strange lovers moan Each other's names on by ? sheets? For the very first time One of them's James The other's some name he changes every time she lies across his bed" "The other's some name SHE changes..." James happens to be her customer's name, but she has an alias. She changes her name when she's with customers. She wants to change, but i get the feeling that she's stuck. |
