I don't think the song is necessarily about cheating. There are many parts in the world in which having relationships/dating is not allowed because it is against religion/customs/tradition. Marriages are usuallu more or less arranged to the satisfaction of the parents. In such an environment, the song would apply perfectly because they would both be sinning, going against what they were were brought up to believe and the society they are in. "We are all we need We can not fail We must not falter We must not tell to those Who seek our souls To take our precious hearts Our hearts are our own Are hearts are our own We must not falter We must not fail We must not We No we must not tell " That last part stresses the need for secrecy as such a relationship between an unmarried couple will never be condoned...it has this underlying note that there is no thrill in sinning, it just is what it is so maybe they've tried being together but for whatever reason, family/social/traditional restrictions, could not. And there is the ultimate admission that they are 'our' hearts, and hence 'our' call. |
