| Stereophonics – Check My Eyelids for Holes Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
Checking your eyelids for holes is a euphemism for having a nap I always heard the first two lines as I'm gonna lose weight Ahh Ahh swallow, honey (as in he's getting oral sex and he's telling her he's cumming!) |

| Sorry, forgot to mention 'Wacaday' featured Michaela Strachan, Timmy Mallett and Tommy Boyd | |

I like the line 'You put the meaning in Wacaday' I remember Wacaday (a UK kids TV program with Timmy Mallett), but i can imagine this is a play on the words 'Whack a day' also (as in he would have a whack a day - masturbate - whilst thinking about Ms Strachan) |

| Roxette – Listen To Your Heart Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| It sounds like a Heart song as the chord structure in the chorus is almost the same as 'Alone' by Heart. When you then hear that Per Gessle was 'going for the overblown rock ballad style that was getting loads of airplay on american radio a the time (sic)' you can put two and two together. The fact it is called 'Listen to your Heart' sounds like a cheeky wink in the right direction, nes pas? | |
| The Beatles – Hey Jude Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| The four letter word is actually a swear word - John tries to harmonise, goes 'oh', then two beats later mutters 'fuckin' 'ell' as he made a mistake. Nobody really noticed and it was kept in the song. | |
| The Beatles – Girl Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I know a lot of people get cross over others saying that Beatles' songs reference drugs, but here is my interpretation: 'Girl' is a street slang for Heroin (as referenced in 'Another Girl Another Planet' by The Only Ones) The first verse says 'She's the kind of girl you want so much it makes you sorry, still you don't regret a single day' this is both the physical need/craving for Heroin but also the fact that most Heroin addicts describe being addicted to Heroin as the best feeling (the novel Junk states 'you could lie there in the sewer all day and feel wonderful sic) The second verse says 'When i think of all the times i tried so hard to leave her (giving up) she would turn to me and start to cry (make him feel bad?) And she promises the earth to me and i believe her (again how wonderful heroin makes you feel and falling for it every time) The bridge says 'she's the kind of girl that puts you down when friends are there you feel a fool' (feeling ashamed of the addiction or trying to hide it from friends.) When you say she's looking good she acts as if it's understood she's cool (as Sickboy says in Trainspotting 'Heroin's got great personality') The final verse talks of pain leading to pleasure (injecting?) and a man breaking his back for leisure (having to work hard to feed a habit) I know that John Lennon had a heroin problem in the late 60s, but it does make me wonder whether he had any friends on the circuit that were having problems in the mid 60s when this was written. Again, this is merely my interpretation, but there are a fair few references in this song that i think are worth a second look. As for the breathing sound, it sounds like a sharp intake of breath rather than a sigh and could be attributed to pain as the needle goes in or the sound of chasing the dragon! I love this song though, regardless of what it means, i love the eastern mediterranean feel to the guitar in particular! |

| Scouting for Girls – Michaela Strachan Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I know they are a hated cheesy band, but the lyrics to this are funny for boys of a certain age! Fave line is 'you opened my eyes to the birds and the bees' as it not only shows that she was a wildlife program presenter, but possibly was the first woman that this person had sexual feelings over. A clever lyric for a repetitive band! | |
| The Beatles – Honey Pie Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I believe this was written around the same time as When I'm Sixty Four, at the start of the 60s when they were in Hamburg; Paul's guitar broke - as it was a cheap piece of tat that he had stuck bass strings on to cover for Stuart Sutcliffe- and so he had to play piano at gigs. Thus these two vaudeville style songs were born | |
| The Beatles – You Know My Name (Look Up the Number) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I like the mumbling Lennon at the end - it reminds me of that plasticine 'red and blue' cartoon from a few years back | |
| Pulp – F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.O.V.E. Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Very Serge Gainsbourg this one. I remember this song as it was playing the first time i made out with a girl and it was the HORNIEST experience of my life - a perfect song for that moment, as we were both inexperienced and it wasn't porn film perfect, 'it was dirtier than that,' lol | |
| Nick Drake – Horn Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| At the moment this song means a lot. A friend of mine took his own life a few weeks back and his funeral was today. Before i left for the church service, i sat down with my guitar and played this. It just seems to explain everything without saying a word: the indefinite timing of the last few notes sums up for me the unpredictable nature of life, not ending where it should. | |
| The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band – Canyons Of Your Mind Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
A great pastiche of those old 'Doo-wop' songs of the 50s. I use this song in class to demonstrate what a spoof is. Favourite lines? Forest of your cheek - does his lover have a facial hair problem? The sweet essence of Giraffe - obviously a very romantic smell Wardrobe of my soul/in the section labelled shirts - If only all songwriters could use such powerful metaphors, lol The recording of this song they show on top of the pops 2 is a classic - When Viv Stanshall delivers the spoken section wearing a huge papier mache mask is one of my all time favourite memories! |

| Nick Drake – Black Eyed Dog Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| People have pretty much said what i think of this song. All i have to add is that this is truly the sound of a genius coming undone. I find it hard to listen to | |
| Jamiroquai – The Return Of The Space Cowboy Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
when i hear 'interplanetary, good vibe zone' i think it's saying 'interplanetary kebab zone' fits in with the stoner munch ethic! Also i thought it said 'say it at the speed of Jiva, man you're an Ikon Diva.' hence the name of several rubbish clubs in essex! |
