YES. The Pitchfork review of this album glosses over this song as a "breakup song" and that enraged me because it's clear there's so much going on here. "Just sing Amazing godless Grace" = that song isn't as 'preachy' a hymn as others "When they lie and say this is not the end" = a priest will likely be saying that the life of the narrator isn't really over, that he's gone to a better place / Heaven, which the narrator says isn't true, and in fact, at the end, he's saying "nope, that's all there is". |

On further review, it's probably meant to be ambiguous - it wouldn't be about the band splitting up necessarily, but about scrapping everything and starting over. This makes sense, and is probably where the song started. But I think the key point is that it's not overly specific, so that an alternate interpretation like mine is possible. |

This is about a breakup, almost guaranteed. It's about a couple who've reached the end of their tolerance with one another, and while it's scary to think about going back into dating and trying to find romance again, it's more likely that they'll each find a better situation than the one they're currently in. The "sad terminal democracy" is not literal - it's a metaphor for the arguing the couple's been having - as a couple they both have a say in decisions concerning them - the "vote", so to speak. Reading commercialism into this is overanalyzing. If it was about the band, the story wouldn't end with the "odds" being that they're better apart. |

I think it's about a girl who's been turned into a hare because of some unnamed crime, and he wants to find someone to change him into a hare as well, so he can be with her in the forest. At least metaphorically, but maybe even literally. |
