I strongly agree with what a few of the people on this post have thought about it. It sounds like a girl who is really sick of trying to be her (probably overbearing) parents perfect little daughter ("jumping through hoops, shaving your legs, etc"). Because she is not happy with trying to be perfect all of the time, she tries getting new friends, who happen to be the wrong crowd who are out late nights ("where do you go, cuz you're never here"-out with her new friends) and lead her into drugs ("nose is bleeding"-cocaine reference). Eventually, "There will be no hesitation...etc." because she really doesn't care about being rebellious anymore, she just does it. While at first, she stayed out late and experimented with drugs just to be rebellious, now it has advanced to the point where she does it just because she does it. (She has no regrets, and doesn't even think about doing the things she does- thus, no confrontation [with self or conscience], no cause, no hesitation, justification, etc.) Her parents are worried about her, and try to get her back on the right path, asking her to "come back to me the way you were (before you had your new friends)" and inform the girl the they "can heal the blind, they can cure the sick" (implying they can help her if she just comes back to them). "Luno" and "You deserve it" are said in the background, like a phantom or ghost is telling this to Luno as she thinks about the new life she has chosen. Her life is falling apart around her, and she is getting a low self-esteem, telling her that she deserves the consequences for her decisions. In my opinion this song is obviously an artistic story about a girl struggling with her self-identity. The story is open to interpretation by the listener; I really don't think one set meaning for this song is appropriate. Beautiful, beautiful lyrics. "Come back to me the the way you were/The way you were when we were young" is so emotional, so pretty, I can actually see the pain on the parents' faces, hoping for Luno to change her ways, when the lyric is sung. Without a doubt my favorite song from a wonderful band. |

"am i the only one who got some sort of religious meaning from this? "if your right hand is causing you pain, cut it off" sounds like a Bible verse about sin. I can't remember which one exactly. I'm probably completely wrong, I haven't really thought about it deeply but that was my initial thought when hearing the song :)" Matthew 18:8, Mark 9:43 both say something about "If your hand offends you, cut it off, it is better to enter into life maimed than having two hands to go into hell" I think this is right- however I think Kele is using this allusion as a metaphor to the relationship he talks about throughout the rest of the song. In other words, it is better for him to cut off the relationship than it is for her to drag him down into a figurative "Hell". Speaking in a non-religious way, this idea could be presented by saying she is like a tumor, and he needs to cut her out so he can live. |

First of all, congratulations to all 100 people who think they are brilliant for interpreting that the song is about Bush. What I want to know - what only one or two have even considered in their arguments - is the relevance of the song title. Why "Helicopter"? If it is anti-American, anti-imperialist, anti-Bush, whatever, how does Helicopter tie in to that? |

| This song seems religious to me too, when I listen to it, I really feel like it is a prayer that has a really awesome guitar part put to it. | |
