| England Dan & John Ford Coley – It's Sad to Belong Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Yes, and right around the time I first heard this song, I was in that exact situation. I had found my soul-mate (trite but so true) in my 15th year of marriage to another. She felt the same, but her husband had (has) a debilitating illness and she felt she needed to stay with him. Unfortunately, I did get divorced and much later re-married but not to her. Even now, 21 long years later, we still speak and, while we both try to keep the regrets out of our voices, the longing is still there. I love my wife (which is more than she can say about her husband) and I will not hurt my wife. So, I think about her daily, and wait... |

| Lynyrd Skynyrd – Free Bird Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Not shallow at all... To me, every sound and every smell evokes a memory. Almost every song makes me recall something, if not about the song itself, then about something associated with it. For example, "Gimme Three Steps" always make me think of when I heard it as I was leaving a great bookstore. "Comfortably Numb" reminds me of doing a training run for the Peachtree Road Race. Anything by Julee Cruise reminds me of a certain girl from years ago, as does a whiff of "RED" perfume. "Mr. Tanner" recalls a certain stretch of South Georgia road during BRAG, because there I sang it to a friend, who professed her ignorance of Harry Chapin. All this is not logical, but surely not shallow. In fact, jklutz, I feel you are missing an understanding of just how quirky the human mind is. |

| Lynyrd Skynyrd – Free Bird Lyrics | 16 years ago |

In 1972, my (then) wife and friends were at Underground Atlanta, late one night, in a bar, I do not recall the name of. Late, tired, slightly wavering. The bar started Free Bird and a couple got up to dance. So slowly at first, then quicker, totally in tune to the music. The girl had long brown hair, a full figure, wearing a short dress, and she was exquisite. A total joy to watch, and I was filled with envy at her guy. Even today, I hear this song, I see her. I do believe, even now, that I could pick out of a crowd. I loved the song before, and ever since it has a special joy for me because of her memory. |

| Céline Dion – It's All Coming Back To Me Now Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I've said it before: If there is a song that I absolutely love, but do not understand, it has got to be Jim Steinman. The man can put together words like nobody else. | |
| Julee Cruise – Falling Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This is the song that made me fall in love with Janie. Simple as that. I still remember handing her the tape (this was in 1989, after all). And she took and called me that night, crying. I still love her, tho I have not seen her in 10 years. | |
| Scott Mc Kenzie – San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Hey, I lived in that time. I still ache for those days, the softness, the sweetness. Those memories are still alive. And a girl named Carrie. This song brings her back so powerfully. Tear in my eye right now. God, where is she? | |

| Thank you, Drew Carey. | |
| Bruce Springsteen – Achy Breaky Heart (Billy Ray Cyrus cover) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Two musicians were in a third worlld country. Both were captured by the Junta and charged with spying, a capital offense. After a brief kangaroo trial, they were sentenced to death by firing squad. On the way to the execution wall, the sargeant in charge of the squad, told both men that they could have one last request. The first man said, "I'm a country music singer, and I'd like to hear 'Achy Breaky Heart' just couple of times that I could sing along with before I die." The sargeant said that would be no problem, and turned to the other man. "What is your request?" "I'm a jazz musician. Please, kill me now." |

| Men Without Hats – The Safety Dance Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
OK, history lesson: In the Dark Ages, as the Black Plague was decimating Europe, the peasantry got the idea that if they performed a dance, the horrors of the plague would bypass their village. The Safety Dance grew in popularity, even if it was useless, much like the Ghost Dance performed in the 1800s by Native Americans to keep the white man away. And, yes, I agree with the anti nukes message. |

| Meat Loaf – Wasted Youth Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I sense a slight parallel to the Doors "The End." Going in to the parent's bedroom is a bit disturbing, but played to good humor by Steinman. Whenever there is a great song that I do not understand, I look for Jim Steinman's name. Consider "Making Love Out of Nothing at All" or "Total Eclipse of the Heart." In fact, at first I credited "Blinded By the Light" to him. |

| These lyrics put Lennon to shame. I am in awe. | |
| The J. Geils Band – Centerfold Lyrics | 17 years ago |

IS a great song, and the girls in the video are cute beyond belief. About 10 years after we split, I found a contri of a girlfriend on the VoyeurWeb. She still looked good! |

| Golden Earring – Twilight Zone Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This is what I hear in the first stanza: Somewhere in a lonely hotel room there's a guy Starting to realize that eternal fate has turned its back on him It's 2 am.... It's 2 am (it's 2 am) The fear is gone (the fear is gone) I'm sitting here waiting (sitting here waiting} The Gun's still warm {the gun is still warm} I'm thinking my connection Is tired of taking chances Yeah, there's a storm on the loose Sirens in my head Wrapped up in silence All circuits are dead Cannot decode My whole life spins into a frenzy (It was only after finding the lyrics sites that I finally understood that it was not "faces looming out.") If you have ever seen the video (again, watch VH1Classics) there is definately a "spy" theme. Of course, I do not understand the leather-clad dancers as the guy is put up on the wall. Oh, well... |

| Meat Loaf – Paradise by the Dashboard Light Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| If you have ever seen the video (stayed tuned to VH1Classics) you will see, at the very end, after Meat throws the mike stand, the girl (Karla?) turn to the camera and flash the biggest SEG. Yeah, she knew what she was doing... | |
