Nope. T is a Ford Thunderbird vs a Chevy Corvette. On the website Hood mentioned the song "Week in a Country Jail", a song about a guy who spends a week in jail for speeding through some little backwater town. The line "what's a guy without a T gonna get? totally screwed" means without a TBird, you just won't go fast enough to dodge Johnny Law, so he's not gonna be fast enough, the girls leave after puking on the car, and he didn't even get his gum. "I LOVE this band, but the unintended irony of this song is sad. They are pretty big sellouts and this song is about not being a sellout." I think its fair to say the irony was very much intended. Signing to a major doesn't make you a sell out, nor does production value. They're sound hasn't really bent to fit commercial interest. Alot of the songs on the album are far from radio ready. The content has changed, but they're getting older. The Rolling Stones are sellouts, they're 60 year old men singing about being horny young studs! As AM! grows they're singing about the things they're facing now in the voice they have now. All in all they're still capable of a pithy turn of phrase, a good hook, and a decent tune. And if they make a less good album once in a while (cause its not BAD, Toxic is bad), so what? They said it, "the stage is not a pedestal". Even one of the greatest artists ever, Bob Dylan, made some pretty shitty albums (Knocked Out Loaded and Street Legal anyone). And shibby gangsta, AM! is punker and more anarchist than you. Bigotry and homophobia stand in opposition to everything those movements are about. |
