I saw this song performed live, and I cried during it. It's such an emotional song I'm sure alot of people can relate too. When I saw them in concert, I was with my boyfriend with who we were having some relationship problems. And this song just hit home. It's a very very very good song. It's basically just talking about a young couple that really isnt working but they try to hold onto the relationship anyways. |

This is my favorite song by them. I think they had some issues before the relationship started, but the girl was like, oh its ok, dont worry. But they never adressed the problem. But then she got sick of it, and is giving him up suddenly for a better life ('you turn your back on me for a picket fence'). He's clearly upset. |

So for my english class we had to pick a song or poem and interpert it. Like we had to write an interpertive essay discussing all the literay elements and overall what it means and then we had to do a dramatic reading. So I chose this song, cause its my favorite song ever by Fall Out Boy, and because I knew it'd be a good challenge to dissect. And all of your comments helped soooo much. Almost the entire song is being sarcastic. It sounds like hes living the typical glamorous so cal life, and hes trying not to dissapoint his friends, so hes telling them how great it is, even when its not. |

I think this song is about him maybe trying to hold onto a relationship thats unraveling. "With every word you say, make me believe That I won't feel your tires on the street" But stuff like this seems to happen all the time "And today was a day just like any other" And hes trying to move on with his life, so hes asking her to not call or come back, because if she does, his progress of moving on from her will shatter. I think the talking part is him just like trying to take it day by day and how life has become so simple and repetitive since they broke up and hes sorta irratited, as I kinda hear when he says 'when did society decide we have to wash a t-shirt after every indivual use, if its not dirty im gonna wear it.' and then he realizes that his life right now is sounding so cliche as hes going through his breakup. that proally didnt make much sense, but it did in my head if you know what im sayin. |

I disagree with a lot of you, I think the melody goes with the song great. My moms a nurse, and she told me compazine is a drug they sometimes give to chemo patients. And some of the side effects include blurred vision and make you a little out of it. But this song is def. him talking about his cancer and how he survived. duh. haha. :] |

This song is pretty much my all time favorite song by Jack's Mannequin, or anything that Andrew has done. I can relate to it so well. I think the first part of the chorus up until 'I will write you a lullaby' is still his friend talking. With that being said, here is my take on the song. I dont think they were love interests, maybe just very good friends. And this girl has had some mental illness, and things are getting harder for her. And he was her support when he was there, so she begins to miss him, and calls him up, and things are getting worse with her. And she cant really trust anyone any more, because her life is probably filled with doctors and pills. (I know, I have chronic depression.) So she wants Andrew to write her a song that means something, and that is maybe soothing, because she is having a hardtime sleeping, probably from her problems. So Andrew tells her he will write her a lullaby. Maybe a few weeks later, she calls him back, telling him how things are getting worse for her. And that she is being put on medication, even though she knows she really doesnt need it, life is just tough for her, and shes lost her will for life, and even though she doesnt need them, she keeps taking them. And she isn't sure why. Overall, I think this song is a really sweet song, of Andrew trying to help a friend through a hard time. The parts that really get me are: "Andy, the doctors Prescribed me the pills. But I know I'm not crazy. I just lost my will. So why am I, why am I Taking them still?" and To the sleepless, this is my reply: I will write you a lullaby, sorry for the length. i had a lot to say. |

I agree with suckyourpitydownx. It's about a girl he knows about to commit suicide, and hes trying to race to get to her before she does. Like shes trying to make her life a tragedy even though its perfectly okay. "No one should let you Go wandering off into the night You're not an orphan." "I never thought the day would come (you're not an orphan) They tell me that you've finally run (you're not an orphan) I guess you always said you would someday (you're not an orphan)" So yep. We had to analyze this song in english class. To me, this is what this song means: They were two best friends growing up in a small town. They fell in love, and dated. But she always wanted something bigger and better then the small town, and then decided to leave for a life of glitz and glamour in the big city. When she comes back, she tries to act like everythings okay, and shes happy, but the way she walks and her demanor says something else 'She acts like summer but walks like rain' Even though shes now big on the social scene and high up, she still struggles with the part of her maybe redneck low class small town self. 'She checks out mozart while she does tae bo' And her best friend wants to know if the life shes living now really is everything it was cracked up to be, and did she fall for some rich prep boy he hasent experienced life like he has, and for her to consider, would she really be who she is today if it werent for him and their memories together?
