this song is all good and dandy in expressing hatred for "the system" and criticizing people who work for the system in one way or another even though they truthfully feel the system is wrong. BUT!!, it poses absolutely NO suggestions as to how to unite to bring down the system. So unless some leadership is shown, this song is a bit redundant... I do like Subhumans though, I just feel you can't completely rag on someone fairly if you don't pose a solution to them. |

Actually some of you were pretty close. I have seen The Human abstract live twice, once on June 29th and once last night. On both occasions I had a chance to meet and speak with the band members and asked the singer/lyricist, Nathan Ells, what the song was about. He told me it was a chronicle of the band's story: what they have gone and still go through as a band with tours and new materiel and such. And of course, it is written in very neatly poetic language. And yes, Vela is a reference to the sail on the ship Argos. |

thadius was correct. this song is about making poor decisions based on "live fast die young" mentality and feeling pressured into it with no other alternative "But what else can we do?" Its about realizing time has passed you by as a child (verse 2). Its about the mentality of popular musicians and their life styles "Lets find some models for wives" and "shoot some heroin and fuck with the stars" and "we'll choke on our own vomit and that will be the end". a few rockers have made their grand exit like this. This song is pretty good musically and really sad lyrically. I really enjoy this song. |
