to me this song is about overdosing on drugs. You can get so caught up in the great feeling of cocaine, xtc, LSD etc that all you want is that feeling to get stronger and stronger, if you dont realize whats happening then before you know it you will be in a horrible place, staring death in the face. basically, drugs are heaven, dont get lost, dont push yourself over the edge or you will make a big mistake. "They got locks on the gate" This makes me think the song is about LSD because if you take too much lsd you wont return back to normal, as if your locked inside heaven. (id like to point out that you have to take a stupid amount of lsd for this to happen and if you take that amount, you dont deserve to be let back into society for your stupidity. A stupid amount being 500+ doses at once) |

Dunno if any1 has mentioned this alredy, this song is about diamond mines (in africa). people built towns around a mountain in africa (called "monkey" by the happy people (africans)). then the towns were taken over by people (strange folk) looking for diamonds, the mountain turned out to be a volcano that blew and killed everyone (fire commings out of the monkeys head) after the strange folk dug mines in the volcano/mountain. The morel of the story is that when people get gready, they dont know when to stop until its too late. This isnt something iv made up, its fact. kinda makes sense when you look at the words |

Anyone that takes acid and enjoys it wont take it only once, they will ALWAYS go back for more, and because it was the 60s acid was widely availible. I knew hendrix took acid many times without even reading about it, his music is so psychedelic its stupid to think he would base a large section of his career (and life) on a chemical he only tried once. stop being so stubborn people. Hendrix did take heroine, it was becomming very popular going into the 70s (and it was very popular in the 70s when acid was dieing out) but i wouldnt say he was a heroine addict. Just cos someone takes heroine it dont mean their an addict, I drink alcohol but im not an alcoholic. |

Auto suggestions explanation makes sense and is probably right. however this song is very drug related cos when your comming down off LSD. you think about what kasabian are talking about in this song, you think about who you was and who you are. you feel like a higher force has just taken control over your mind and body for 8 hours and then you get dumped back into reality and you feel lost, trying to identify yourself. Also i think its "music is my, my world" because it feels like music is the only thing you care about when your comming down off LSD. |

ok time for you guys to find out what this song is really about. its about ketamine (nicknames - K, special K, Vitamine K, super K) Ketamine is a general anesthetic, it used to be used by doctors during a few wars as a fast acting anesthetic for wounded soldiers. It is now used by vets to perform operations on animals (usually horses, cats and dogs). When you take ket in small doses, your mind becomes dissociated (seperated) from the body and creates out of body(OBE) and near death experiences (NDE) Now to connect it to the song: "Coming up beyond belief" When you take your first dose, the effects keep getting stronger and because ket disrupts your perception of reality, you find it hard to believe that its actually happening to you. "More chaotic, no relief" Getting stronger and stronger "I'll describe the way I feel" when on ket you feel like you need to tell people whats happening to you because your so amazed "Weeping wounds that never heal" If you fall over and cut yourself, you wont feel a thing because ket is an anesthetic "Or are you just my seventh seal?" Ket is his achillies heel because the ket world is so much more amazing that the real world so he wants to always stay in the ket world (psychological addiction at its best) I see alot of people saying brain said its a love song. personally i dont believe it at all, even if he did say it, he cant exactly turn to the interviewer and say he writ it about a drug called ketamine. |

I think its about comming up from LSD. "Walking like you're stuck in velvet snow" Walkin on LSD is a hard task at first. "Glowing cause you’re sweating on the floor," Acid makes everything glow and it makes you sweat "You get to going way too fast, and I'm so slow" When you start tripping, the LSD feels too intense because your tripping about different things really fast. In other words, his mind is too slow to keep up with the acid when it first hits you. "Turn out the lights, she's coming to fight, And then she'll go" He starting to have a bad trip. LSD is a drug that thrives on sensory input (sight, touch, sound etc). if you turn the lights off(or close your eyes), then your main sensory input has gone, therefore you will not trip as hard. in other words, the LSD is fighting against him, so to stop it he turns the lights off |

I dont know how any of you can choose a favorite beatle, they were/are all brilliant in so many ways. and sayin lennon was an idiot is just retarded. lennon was a musical genious. No one was the leader of the band, a bands that have leaders arn't successful and break up pretty fast. If anyone was the leader then it was george martin, it was his job to lead the band to success. Choosing a favourite out of a legendary band where everyone write great song is just an impossible task. As for the song, very nice to listen to on lsd :D i think its just about putting a positive outlook on things. For every time the word "goodbye" is used, the word "hello" is used 3 times. Goodbye isnt a nice word as it represents some1 leaving. The same concept can be said for "yes" and "no" Yes is a word of acceptance, letting something into your life, where as no is pushing something away |

The beatles were good at putting subliminal sht in their songs and this song is no exception, though its not very subliminal because the lyrics describe a psychedelic experience, but nowhere in the song do they mension its about lsd, they're just describing a psychedelic experience which obviously means they have experienced the power of psychedelics. Back to the subliminal thing, look at the paul is dead hoax, all over their songs are references pointing to his death. for example, the song " A day in life" on the sgt. peppers album, theres a line in their that says "he blew his mind out in a car." paul had supposedly died in a tragic car crash. Another reference is "all you need is love" at the end, lennon repeats the same line - "We loved you yeah, yeah, yeah" saying that paul is no longer around. Also theres proof on the front of album covers. I know it was just a hoax, but the question is: did they purposely put them lyrics in to create a hoax so that they would sell more albums? or did conspiracy theorists make it all up? In my eyes, the beatles made this hoax themselves and lennon is a genious for doing so. hmmm... i might have gone a bit off track in this post but the bottom line is, this song was made and written about LSD in every possible way |

Someone said the beatles slowed this song down to make it more trippy. This is true, as it is with most of their psychedelic songs. They slow certain parts down so that the beat sounds out of sync, this creates a psychedelic effect. All psychedelic music is made by slowing down and speeding up samples, then layering them over each other, today its done quite easily by usin computers but back in the 60s they had to use tape loops and sythesizers with about as much computing power as todays scientific calculators. You have to admire the beatles for being able to do this when most of todays musicians cant even do it. |

He's questioning whether god exists or not. "the fish swam out of the ocean and grew legs and they started walking and the apes climbed down from the trees and grew tall and they started talking and the stars fell out of the sky" Life evolved, then alot of living creatures died when an asteroid hit earth (or a star fell out of the sky) "now i'm looking for a reason why" He's asking why humans (or himself) now exists when most life became exstinct millions of years ago. "cause if you're not really here then the stars don't even matter now i'm filled to the top with fear but it's all just a bunch of matter" He's scared because if god doesn't exist then he, us, the stars, and everything around us is just a bunch of matter. Matter meaning a mass of atoms. "i feel a way of something beyond them i don't see what i can feel if vision is the only validation then most of my life isn't real" he feels like theres more than just what he can see (heaven maybe?) but if vision is the only thing that makes everything real (or something isnt real if you cant see it) then most of his life isnt real, because life is built from emotional feelings (and you cant see your feelings) black & gold is just what he sees when he looks up into the night sky This is a very deep song that questions religion and reality and hes trying to find a way to put the two together. Im not at all a religious person but this is 1 of my favourite songs because everything he says in it makes sense to me. He's having the same thoughts that i have had (and probly most humans) |
