I know how dangerous it is to identify the lyrical "I" with the singer/writer, but this is clearly Scott talking about himself. He's such a warm, friendly and seemingly happy person in all the interviews I've seen of him, but clearly also very critical of himself, constantly reflecting on his actions and quite dark in the conclusions he draws. You can see that through all the FR albums, be it in "The Modern Leper" or "Footshooter". In almost all of his break-up songs he tends to look for the fault first and foremost within himself and lays little blame on his exes. But the important thing is, he is aware of this trait in himself and has learned to live with it, which IMO is what this song is about. It fits therefore, that despite the selfcritical lyrics, this is one of the most uplifting and "happy" songs on the album. I don't think Scott will ever be a happy-go-lucky ball of kittens and rainbows, but as long as he can laugh about it "we've still got hope so I think we'll be fine In these disastrous times, disastrous times". |

Very badly writen song. The deixis is all wrong, making it just confusing. Pretty basic stuff. She sad it was recorded last minute and it shows. Had she had more time to go over it again, it may have been better. |

Nope, pretty sure she isn't. On ironic thing happened after this song though. A US education authority criticised Ms Morisette for reinforcing the stereotype that Americans don't know what irony is... thereby reinforcing another stereotype about Americans. |

| None of these things are ironic. They're unfortunate. It's not the same thing. And that's why this song is utter shite. | |

"You can sit only" I think is "You can see all of me". Bone-chilling song. A song about sex that finally is excited and exciting again. He's come a long was since "The Twist" and "Keep Yourself Warm". |

| Definitely "communal heart", you're right s4m84. Apart from that I think the lyrics are right. | |

"The point was hard to pass A mediocre past" I'm pretty sure it's: "Pointless artefacts of a mediocre past" And it's definitely "through the door", not "for the door". As for the meaning, completely agree with jemkid. What a song to start the album. You could play it right after "Floating down the Forth", it's clear he is making the next step here. |

Another idea: Isn't it "There's a radio in the corner, it's dieing to make us see" As in evoking mental images, fantasy, instead of the ready made images the TV serves you? |

Saying it's just about a kiss is taking "the longest kiss goodnight" a bit too literally, IMO. The midnight organ fight, this fumble that has become biblical, the feeling like he died twice (reference to the "petit mort", IMO) is all illustrating very pasionate sex. Btw: I hear "red sleepy kiss", instead of "red city kiss". Anyone else? |

completely agree with gparkla, a song about simpler times, about just turning the TV off and talking and having a little dance to the radio... great song. btw: Pretty sure the second line is "It's killing us, we never speak" |

Not much you can interpret there... it's just 100% truth. I'll throw in both my kidneys and a TV for any proof. Tim is so f**kicg Rock!!! |

I love this song cause it's so wonderfully childish and serious at the same time. But do I have an unusual version of the song? Cause in mine she clearly sings: "Me and all of my other chums Will sit and talk 'bout your smelly bum" One of my favourite lines actually, apart from the ones prettylikedolly has already mentioned. |
