I don't understand the theory of this being about the Iraq war... The album with the song on it was released in September, 2003. Not very many people were looking at the war as being a failure then... And I'm pretty sure they wrote the song before the Iraq war. To me the song is reffering to someone who is protecting their child, or pet rather from the truth. But if you read the lyrics, it seems like there is a picture being painted of someone trying to protect someone from a false enemy. I'm a Christian, but this song through and through seems like it could be in some ways about religion. I think it has many themes... It's more complex than only being about religion, or war, or abuse, or imprisonment or any other thing that you could think of. A great song though. |
