| I like that he just goes into wordless "da da da da"s at the end. He's folding his hand, but he can't stop himself. He's quitting this exhausting game, but his mouth and his heart just keep running in the same direction even as he tries to jerk the wheel in another direction. | |

I can't say for sure but I took a road trip recently in the company of someone with whom I shouldn't have been spending alone time and the lines "Until we drive fifty miles too far And we will find a spot in the sun Where we will let our hearts run wild" sound a LOT like the point in the drive where the kid gloves come off and you start letting yourselves feel the thing you're not supposed to. And at least at that point - when you know you're setting yourself up for pain - you can console yourself in knowing that, by the time you've recovered enough to look up again, to try to be cool for the people around you, you'll have been living a thing that sounds real romantic to everyone else, and they'll all be jealous. Sigh. |

it's really neat that this references Weird Divide from Oh, Inverted World: Several days a month you made The mile to my house, And had me do a stroll with you. Just a little touch that makes the whole thing resonate a bit more. It's funny that people hear that one as a breakup song or a bit of wistful nostalgia for something lost, but in light of this song it would seem that it's more a fond remembrance of the start of the same relationship. |

| On another message board it was remarked that the line before "deus ex machina" might be "somewhere en scena", a latin theater phrase that would fit well with the following line. | |
