the song is about being addicted to alcohol. in the first verse he's talking about how he drinks alcohol to forget his problems but then realizes that the alcohol is ruining his life and making him more miserable. in the second verse he's saying thats he's ashamed because even though he wants to quit he finds himself still drinking in the third verse he's begging someone to help him change. and of course in the chorus he's saying that he's afraid he's just too weak to change and that no one is there to help |

wayward means "erratic or unpredictable" i think whats its trying to say is that heres so many problems with peoples life nowadays that they've forgotten how to be care-free. he's saying its a cold world without the "Wayward ones" and he wants somebody to bring them back so the world could be a better place |
