Porcupine Tree – How Is Your Life Today? Lyrics 10 years ago
@[lassa:6907] I also always viewed this song as a dead man's last thoughts, and I'm guessing he isn't quite dead yet, which is why each second seems like a lifetime and the taxi's been waiting to take him to the after-life. At least, that's how I see it.

Apparat – Goodbye Lyrics 10 years ago
Regarding the lyrics, it's definitely "Fold down you hands" and "Bury your doubts", and I'm also convinced it's actually "Put down you lies", and not "hold down" or "hooked on" as can be read sometimes.

Anyway, amazing song!

@[gavharr:6512] Actually it's "I just wanna be over you, see you and feel numb", you can hear it in one of the live videos on YT.
And yes, definitely a love song, and a pretty sad one too.

Yeah, and I don't know why but I find it to be the saddest part of this soul-wrenching song. Maybe because that's what I so desperately hope to hear some day.

@[TechWookiee:5740] I'd never thought about him mistaking rescuers in their gear for aliens. Makes a lot of sense!

Porcupine Tree – Fadeaway Lyrics 10 years ago
Looking back at this song after several years and one of the hardest lessons life has to teach, I have to agree with ptree's view. I'd never, ever, seen it that way, but I have to say the "room with a view" now totally strikes me as a metaphore for someone contemplating memories.
However, it is very open. This is what makes this song so great, I think: you can find so many meanings to it.

Now, this is very subjective, of course, but, as ptree, I can definitely see this song being about a lost love.

The first verse could refer to some kind of delayed realization of what happened, and the implication (no, not Dennis Reynold's "implication"). She realized right away they'd part forever, but he didn't. She knew, but not him. Or maybe he thought they'd be together forever, but she knew from the start it would never last. Something along those lines anyway.

In any case, the second verse is the fall into despair after the realization (tomorrow is gone). The voices may be from his past, however I'd bet on the distant voices of people trying to help him through a tough time, except it's just like background noise to him. He simply can't hear them clearly as he's stuck in this room, alone.

The third verse, for me, definitely puts him in the spectator seat, powerless, condamned to watch these leaves outside his window, untouchable, unalterable, completely out of reach, just blowing in the wind. You don't change the past. He tries to espace the pain by climbing the walls, as now he sees things for what they were.

As for the last verse, I'm still unsure whether he killed himself and the hole is indeed a grave, but I'm inlcined to believe it's the opposite. He finally made it out of the room somehow, because people needed him (the audience cried out for more). He won the battle, the pain and suffering fade away, and it's just another day.

Finally, the "hit heaven far too high" line would, in this interpretation, refer to his attachement to someone that was far too great, a love that was far too strong.

I'm very uncertain if this is what the lyrics are supposed to portray, especially since I've never seen the early PT songs to be much about love, but right now it just feels right to me.

"The line "but I forget which door i came through" is a reference to the difficulty of ending your life i recon, as you dont remeber becoming alive, and so dont know how to find the way out...just a thought" - blern

Damn, never thought of it that way, that's really impressive what you got there o__o
Not too sure that's how it was intended, but the way you see it is just... WOW

If anyone gets this, seriously, either you are SW or Duffy themselves, or there's something very wrong with you :D
However, another really great song...

This song is just amazing (one of their best without a doubt). Lyrics are not trippy enough to get compred to duffy's though, i think...
Anyway, I would love to hear SW comment on this one, it really bugs me when I don't get what a song was realy about.

Anytway, I personnaly am torn between a guy's dream, or him discovering he has died.
I can't understand some parts of it, but some lines tend to make me think of death:
- i stumbled in the dark anaware (of what had happended to me)
- tomorrow has gone (well, tomorrow is no more, obviously)
- where do the voices come from (are these prayers he is hearing ?)
- You did not know me at all (maybe regrets ? anyway, it is a last over)
- I fell through a hole in the floor (could it be a grave ?)
- The audience cried out for more (could it be people not wanting him to be gone, crying their loss out ?)
- Fadeaway (could it be him getting to heaven [far too high ?])
- It's just another day (maybe his death doesn't change a lot of things anyway ?)

Also, the "hit heaven far too high" thing may mean the guy died of an overdose ?

Some other lines make me think of a dream or some drug trip maybe ? The "fadeway, it's just another day" could also refer to the guy waking up from a dream. This is all very literal interpretations, but that's a start...

I wouldn't be suprised if there was some deeper meaning in there. Things like the room with a view, climbing the walls, the face in the hall, the voices tend to make me think there definitely is something more to get.
Just like the girl in the protograph... why IS she laughing at him ? What can't we see ? What did she know ? This is a major part to get the meaning i think, so if anyone has any ideas about that...

Last thing, we can here a clock at the very begining of the song, and this must also give some clue...
