The Dear Hunter – Vital Vessels Vindicate Lyrics 18 years ago
"Through all of this I've felt just the same; the flame is gone the fire remains."

MikeMara posted in a prior song about the fire and the flame:

'its symbolic of the different events in the boy's life. how there are life changing events that dont seem like much, and he forgets them quick, and moves on, but the effects of the initial spark grow to an overwhelming degree. so, the flame is the birth of the fire'

The Dear Hunter – Where The Road Parts Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this is Hunter leaving a message for Ms. Leading on her answering machine or something of the like. He's trying to say he's leaving her but is finding it hard to say. Hence the line in Dear Ms. Leading: "Did you get the message in the message that I sent."He truely wants to stay with her, but his pride won't allow it.

The Dear Hunter – Black Sandy Beaches Lyrics 18 years ago
The only thing that you guys have wrong is that it isn't Casey that finds the letters; it's an unkown woman.
"Oh how she smiles from vicarious love from the one he writes about." She being the woman reading the letter. Vicarious means "in place of another person", and since she is experiencing vicarious love than the reader must in turn be a woman.

Of course I could be wrong, but I'm nearly certain.

The Dear Hunter – The Bitter Suite II: Embrace Lyrics 18 years ago
I love the line "she had the Summer's smile with Winter's skin, and all along with words beyond me she welcomed me in" as well. I interpretted it as more of a description of how inviting she acted and looked; she had a warm smile and winter's skin or fair skin (this is the late 1800s i'm assuming and pale was still in at the time.)

I love the recurring lyrics between the songs; it really brings the story together.

The Dear Hunter – The Church and the Dime Lyrics 18 years ago
MikeMara, I think you're dead-on.
Also I'd like to support your find by pointing out the obvious similarities between this song and "the Pimp and the Priest".

The Names of course show the same contrast between good vs. bad.
The songs both have very similar lyrics: "Faster, save me. Harder, I can't..." is nearly identical to the lyrics in "the pimp and the priest", and the chorus plays very similar in the two songs as well.

The Dear Hunter – The Oracles on the Delphi Express Lyrics 18 years ago
Are the Oracles supposed to be telling him his future?
If so: "Crimson hands, brandish words which masquerade" could be a future reference of Ms. Leading.

We know it's his mother because if ACT I and the line "Perished matriarchal bonds" means that he was under the care of a woman who has died (refers back to the Procession of course)

"one life for another": seeing that Ms. Terri was murdered ("the blood, it paints such a scene") would the Dear Hunter then be looking for revenge on whoever killed her?
