| UNKLE – What Are You To Me? Lyrics

To me this song is about what happens when you get to the point of reflecting over past experiences. While daydreaming he’s reminiscing about his life. He’s had many emotional experiences good and bad with many different types of people. But while basking in the sun he’s trying to give or attach meaning to the people in his life. He’s been in this situation before; there are many answers but only one solution but gets frustrated trying to find it. He knows the answer is there but still doesn’t see it, all the while giving up today and fighting tomorrow in possible hope of another experience allowing new perspectives. However he’s already been down that road leaving him to feel that his efforts are a bit futile. Then a woman ask “what’s wrong?” and the “to me” starts to sound a little different.
See if you can find any of the morals in this story and let me know. Till next song. |

This song is not about x or sex. It's understandable but it’s talking about a feeling while accepting and letting in the environment or getting lost in it. In this case she’s traveling somewhere anywhere means she's just moving without care. Even though it's cold she doesn't care dissolving her worries. When she’s drifting deeper, she’s delving into the experience in this case music ignoring the outside world. Then she repeats the same lines to build the sensations and intensity until the right moment she’s ready to embrace, envelop, peak and then melt with thoughts and feelings of joy.
Think about how you feel when you hear a meaningful song or when you’re in the zone in any sort of activity. It’s a different experience but the same effect. |

i posted this w/o reading the other postings and rog27 really put together a good and detailed picture of our subject but might be stretching it out a bit (stick to the song and not get distracted by someone else's interpretation and his details). rod22 this song is all about religion. it's one message of what all the enlightened ones have been relaying us (and there are many). supplement this song with fight club and the matrix and draw the parallels. but this song does touch on the hypocrisy of others and a critical analysis of the discontent of achieving the American Dream. |

I've heard this song and had seen the video long ago. But have never understood or better yet comprehend anything about what is being said until getting a bit wiser and more experienced. After listening to and reading the lyrics only, the song at its core is about the sample from jb's ladder. The rabbit is representative of one's soul. It avoids the attention it's getting and has no choice but to crawl in its hole. The next 4 lines could possibly refer to in my mind a trophy wife who can't stand to be in contact with anything and/or get her hands "dirty" and possibly her husband, a fat greedy and power hungry individual, who looks at others as sheep to be used in anyway they please represented by the bloody fingers like a mastermind puppeteer making you dance to his voice. Then he reiterates a point by comparing himself to the wasteful. After the sample he’s on the subway in a cart stuck between two stations. I’m not exactly sure what the stations are meant to represent but it could possibly mean life and death. But since the subway is meant to take you somewhere but not moving he’s losing his “sanity” and wraps it up by making us figure out the ending to the story or make one up.
This is just a simple interpretation and I will not connect the dots for you. If you can’t then it’s a good idea to start with the bible. I have more details and interpretations. If you agree with this, then I leave it to you to find the morals of the story and let me know. |
