the lyrics are so butchered. I'll always treasure the naivety of the past we've shared. Our bodies grew much faster than our minds, but together we got good at stopping time. My teen angst drove me to hurt myself and I made you watch oh, the pain I must have caused. But by staying around you saved my life. (Saved my life) We were never meant to be lovers Just fellow late bloomers who blossomed apart, who blossomed apart Watching my parents made me look for something destructive, and there you were with all the characteristics of my mum, familiarity of home. The geographic gap led to force adulthood and your rage exposed. I'm glad we left things when we did, I doubt I'd survive another bloody war. We were never meant to be lovers We just mirrored each others self-destructiveness, self-destructiveness The spotlight burned in the room when we were together, and we played our parts and I wore an imaginary TV-screen so you never got to touch my heart. (touch my heart) We were never meant to be lovers Our egos fed off each other and died overweight, and died overweight I thought I'd seen it all when you first walked in, but you shut me up and challenged every wrong perception I've had of myself and you haven't ever stopped. anyway, amazingly good song. |

| Plain White T's – Let's Pretend Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| if you ask me it's about two people who broke up and got back together, but it was just strange so he wants to pretend everything's fine but really she wants to just end it and he can't really handle it because he feels like if they pretended just a little longer, it might become real again. he doesn't want to go through the pain of breaking up again because they both know what it's like and neither of them liked it but it takes a while to be able to go at a relationship again. | |
| Bright Eyes – Make War Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Their love is dead because they both became different people. and he's desperately grasping to it, saying "return to the person you were, and I will do the same" because then their love could be new again. His attitude changes completely when he speaks of her new lover... it's like "you don't need me anymore so fuck you." Up until that part I considered it to be hopeful. |

| Bright Eyes – Contrast and Compare Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
it's bone chilling, the version after tereza and thomas. this song's about sadness, and not wanting to address it (perhaps depression.) being complacent with life and having a lover who you don't want to tell this to because they will feel it's their fault, when you know it's not. it's the day by day motions of feeling empty, without knowing why, and ruining relationships with the ones who do care. "Contrast and compare Between the busy ones And the ones that don’t care Until there is no one That you really know" some people are too busy with themselves to notice the singer's pain, others simply don't care. he wants to see who cares but feels as though there's no one because no one's asking. his lover asks him at the end, but he can't tell her. so he fakes a smile and goes back to the day by day melancholy motions. |

| Bright Eyes – You Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Does anyone else get chills when he says "you are the reoccuring kind" ? I sure do. Yea, I pretty much agree with everyone else, it's easily relatable. It's a bout a young love that was too strong for its time, and now he's trying to move on with his life (thinking maybe he'll return), trying to experience the other things in life without being tied down to this person. But he's haunted by thoughts of her. It's rather sad, really. That's why my boyfriend of almost two years ended it recently. He has said "this is not the age to settle down." Yet he'll still be bombarded by his feelings sometimes and say things to me he shouldn't. It's hard on the both of us. But all in all we know it's for the best. The whole "completed" thing: I don't know, I don't really think the book is supposed to be something they've written together or anything like that. I think the "completed" means she's a book, and he's already read it. There's nothing new, he knows it all. But it's still on the shelf for those days where you miss it and want to read it again. But you also want to move onto new books...new maps. |

| I could be wrong, but I always thought it was "die poor and all alone." | |
| James Blunt – Goodbye My Lover Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| this is one of the few songs that have made me cry. Some others have made my eyes water, but this gave fullblown tears. Pretty straightforward meaning, I don't really feel the need to disect and waste it's beauty. I never felt the desire to listen to Blunt seeing as "You're Beautiful" was obnoxious, but my best friend Adam made me listen to his other stuff today, really good. | |
| Bright Eyes – A Line Allows Progress, a Circle Does Not Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
The way I always interpreted the title was: if you're moving in a line, you're moving forward, but if you're moving in a circle you're just retracing your steps. The circle is the stagnation that comes with the depressing addiction. The person thinks that they are helping themselves but really they're burying themselves deeper and deeper. He references the circle during the song: "Break this circle of thoughts you chase Before they catch back up with you" He's saying that the person needs to get out of this circular destruction if they truly want to be saved. |

| Jason Mraz – Sleeping To Dream Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
yea I've always thought this song was about someone who's been broken up and knows that the only place they can see that person in their dreams so they look forward to sleeping as often as they can because they want to escape the reality that they're not really there. woo run on sentence? |

| Matt Costa – Wash Away Lyrics | 17 years ago |

my boyfriend of almost two years ended our relationship because he feels as if there are other things he has to take care of, like figuring out who he is, before coming back to this relationship. we both still care about each other deeply, but right now he just wants to go in another direction and be out of a relationship until he gets settled into college and his life all makes sense, which is when he thinks he'll deserve someone like me. this song means so much to me because he made me a playlist of his favourite indie music one day, and I've been listening to it every night before bed. this song came on and the lyrics hit me hard. I feel that it's about a girl he dated who just needed to go in a different direction for a little while. It's not that the relationship went bad or there was anything wrong with him. She just... it's what she needed. And they've built so much together and it just makes it all so much harder to let it go, but you know there'll always be another chance. somewhere down the line. because a connection that strong never truly fades. |

| The Meg And Dia Band – Nineteen Stars Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
they definitely say "The way that you keep me when I'm out of TIME" it would make much more sense as well. you know the phrase, "keeping" somebody. She wants to leave but she can't because he keeps her there. To me, it's about a relationship, and a guy who's trying to run away from it but at the same time doesn't want to actually, ultimately, leave. The entire song she's begging for any sign of him showing he cares... even if it's anger. Because he's running away from something that she needs, and she knows him so well and knows he doesn't actually want to leave so she's wishing to keep him there. But, inevitably, it is running her out of life. however this is happening to me at the moment so maybe this is why I interpret this this way. Though it always seemed that this was the meaning... anyway, another great song from two great girls. can't get it off repeat. |

| Regina Spektor – Baobabs Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| actually this always made me think of the taming of the shrew :/ I've never read that french book but you're assumptions seem pretty accurate. Plus, my conclusion derives solely from the chorus. I'll have to read this other book :] | |
| Regina Spektor – Lulliby Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think the song is about someone who lost someone they love, but they both still care about each other. The line "If you often smile but often don't smile Which do you do more often Smile or not?" shows the uncertainty of the other person in the relationship as to whether or not they want to be in the relationship. I always interpreted the toenails changing colour as a sign of aging and time passing by, because I've noticed the older people are the yellower their toenails appear. I do find the citylife/nail polish interpretation interesting as well. |
