Fascinating song!I'm almost completely sure that this is about 'Tarja's Era'!XD 'The End.' It just represents the end of that time when Tarja was in band.At the end of the song 'the biginnig' is whispered.Always, after an end there's a new beginning.This time it's a new singer in the band, but guess it means more to Tuomas cause he and Tarja were friends,(just my oppinion-->)maybe even more- he was in love with Tarja. 'The songwriter`s dead. The blade fell upon him Taking him to the white lands Of Empathica Of Innocence' He knew that something must be done, cause all that band thing with Tarja didn't work(cause of stupid asshole marcello!:D)Tarja started to act like diva, althoug I'm not persued it's the only reason (supposing that he loved Tarja too much just to watch marcello's stupid ideas and personality rule over her, and her beeing blind and not see all that) He made a decision with rest of the band and they agreed about expeling Tarja.All he wanted was a peace and beauty he always searched for(he might thought that he found it in band, but it all became too complicated)He wants to go back in innocence and not worry about anything. 'Oh Christ how I hate what I have become' He's revising his own decisions.'Did he make a mastake?Is he a bad person for what he has done?' 'My home was there `n then Those meadows of heaven Adventure-filled days One with every smiling face Please, no more words Thoughts from a severed head No more praise Tell me once my heart goes right' All that beautiful time they've shared toghether,and now all is lost.Like that's not enough, people judge all of them.All that glory of the band and himslef as a composer means nothing to him now, cause Tarja's not in band anymore.He's afraid that all he does is wrong...He needs someone to suport him... "THE PACIFIC" Feeling lost,missunderstund-beeing an OCEAN SOUL! Just an old feeling you can see in all of Tuomas' songs. 1st verse A wish to be where ocean souls belong, somewhere he'll be free.In place there's no fences and guess that's the peaceful place Tuomas's searching for. 2nd verse No matter how he wished to be happy in a beautiful place he couldn't ignore the problems with Tarja, cause they would eventually ruin everything. 3rd versea It was so beautiful at night they formed the band but this is just the way it had to be.Tuomas was just 'a puppet on this silent stage show'... ...and the last 3 verses... Being afraid that someone is going to hurt him again...Feeling betrayed...See your friends, the ones you loved and fighted for, betray you is the worst thing and it's killing you slowly... ”DARK PASSION PLAY” Part of him died with Tarja's departure... ”Today, in the year of our Lord 2005, Tuomas was called from the cares of the world. He stopped crying at the end of each beautiful day. The music he wrote had too long been without silence. He was found naked and dead, With a smile in his face, a pen and 1000 pages of erased text. ” This is the most dramatic part of song for me... He died in effort to find some beauty in cruel world... Guess he found the peace and happines.... but there's somthing more...1000 pages of erased text...sounds like there's a thing he wanted to say to the world but he realised that it's easier this way... Still there's something that sticks me...that smile seems fake, somehow...XD ”MOTHER & FATHER” Guess they're the only persons he's still sure that won't betray him and he's grateful for that... Ocean Soul is definetly someone who is "different" from others - and lonely. I think however, that the idea is since he can't connect with other people, he is going to find something that actually does understand him - the ocean (the mermaid or merman idea is actually kinda cool in an emotional sense. Tell me if you haven't felt exactly this way. Anyone who listens to Nightwish is automatically not as shallow as typical society is or you would be listening to Britney Spears instead! Toumas himself says on his website journal that he uses the wolf theme in his songs becuase he feels like a lycanthrope. Like he pretends to be human but doesn't really fit in because he doesn't think the same way...I feel like this all the time. Like you are born in the wrong era or body... I think that is exactly what he means by "Ocean Soul". Wish I could meet him or others that feel this way.... "Should I dress in white and search the sea?" The chorus has been teary eyed now that I think of what it could mean. I have the ambition of being a marine biologist or a biologist in general. Still, I have the looming feeling I could be an artist, or a musician but then I don't want to because I feel like it would be a waste of my efforts on something frivolous instead of helping people understand the earth....etc. Kudos if this song is portraying becoming a scientist in a positive light... I take this song as a "what if?", meaning "what if I had taken this path instead of the one I have already?", especially the line "I only wished to become something beautiful". _______________________________________________ I totaly agree... |

I read some interview with Tuomas about 'The Islander' and he said that before some show Marco came to him and played him the song,and after that Tuomas wrote the lyrics...and he also said that this song is so special cause there's no metaphors it's just a sad story about an old man...:D | |

| I like this song very much...especially the lyrics...I guess it's about Tuomas' wish to escape from reality but that's something he does all the time...I mean all of his songs are in a way epic and fantastic,they are something like fantastic reallity,Tuomas' world...I think 'The Dead Boy' he is always writing about is himself! When he was younger everything seemed easier to do and the whole world seemed much better and now maybe he's kind of disapointed, maybe he is sorry for loosing that feeling of safety and i guess he is escaping to that past...and again there's something he is still trying to reach-the owl-wisdom and paradise-kind of peace and beauty... or maybe I just have some fantastic ideas....anyway Tuomas RULES!:D | |
