Beautiful song - and I got the same Seal vibe as Stashews... Quite subtle, yet powerful vocal from Amos - can't really make sense of the meaning of the lyrics though... does anypne have a clearer perspective? |

Well if it's true that Tom Barman has a special relationship with his sister then I will allow myself to totally overanalyze these lyrics: It seems to me he has what seems to be the perfect relationship with this girl but the grilfriend can not cope with the fact that there is something special between him and his sister - she detests his sister (2nd paragraph) and it splits him between the two. The girlfriend thinks that everything is dandy, but in the end he kills off their the relationship because his love lies with his sister. The form of the lyrics could imply that he is actually revealing his feelings to his sister, since it seems that he is singing to her, but the person (relationship) he is killing is someone different. Sister Dew could have something to do with the fact that dew forms on surfaces as they cool off - just one possible interpretation. I know it's a stretch, and I doubt if I'm right all the way, but who knows - maybe I'm on to something :o) |
