this song is so beautiful, it's far too short, i wish it were longer. when i first heard it, i thought it said 'they tell me that you've finally won', which would have similar meaning. |

i think the grass is growing on her bed because shes always sleeping in the beds of other men, never in her own bed. so shes sleeping around, after theyve broken up, but shes still hung up on him. |

| This is so sad. The second last verse so perfectly conveys the last scene when she says it's not a date. Maaan. Awesome. | |

I think it's just about the way that people who move to L.A lose their innocence and their faith in the world, the city's shadows overtakes them and not everyone can get out. It feels like Joel is saying he got sucked into it for a while, but now the glamour has faded and he sees the reality of it, that 'beautiful things don't always stay that way', and now he's walking towards the light, trying to get out of it. The second verse is about the way that everyone grows up too fast in L.A, and especially if you're from a small town, you're a lot more naive and innocent, and you lose your way a lot easier in the mean streets. Then it goes on to say that if they can find their way out of L.A's shadows, they'll come home a lot stronger and more aware of the world, and if they don't come back you'll know it's because they lost themselves in the madness. Baptized in the river [on my own] stands for the way that he had found faith in things again, and he did it on his own, without anyone's help. There are definitely allusions to the bible in the song, but Good Charlotte really aren't religious so I don't think the song is as biblically-based as everyone is trying to make it. I understand the last part as him saying he's realised that he's been doing not-great things, he doesn't like who he is anymore, but he wants redemption and he wants to be saved. |
