In the Bush song "Dead Meat," Gavin says, "I'll burn before I mellow."
So in this song, Gwen references Gavin specifically when she says, "You say you're gonna burn before you mellow." |

I agree - I don't think this song is sarcastic or sad at all. If you know the story of Gwen and Tony and how things fell apart and how devastated she was, and then the band almost breaking up in the public eye, then the song makes sense. Gwen wrote A LOT of songs about Tony and breaking up and moving on, and how complicated it was with Gavin for a long time, and now that so many years have passed and things have smoothed out, at least for her, her relationship with Tony has finally really repaired. They are making great music, she doesn't resent him anymore, but she's still nostalgic for those younger days when they were in love, and it doesn't mean that she's sorry things worked out the way they did. "Everything is going right." She's looking back on her first love and remembering it fondly, but not wishing that things were different. She's appreciating that after all these years of it hardship, it's finally worked itself out. |

I can see how that line alone might make you think it's a reference to rape, but taken in context with "but oh, it's alright, now it's over, oh baby, this was the night
and oh mr. moon, shines down on my home,
it's where i belong
without you" it's clearly not. So no worries :) |

| Shiny Toy Guns – Chemistry of a Car Crash Lyrics

My take on this song is that maybe the singer is in love with his best friend. When he's with her, he can tap into all these things he can't when he's with anyone else, but she doesn't feel the same way. Maybe she's in love with someone else, maybe she's in a relationship with someone else.
I think she knows how he feels about her but tried to avoid it, tries to ignore it, to preserve their friendship because she does care about him and she knows that he needs her, as a friend if nothing else. And he tries not to keep blurting his feelings to her and tries not to keep making it obvious because he doesn't want to make it any harder for her, but at the same time he keeps hoping that one day she'll change her mind, and he wants her to know that she should never feel alone or unloved because he'll always be more in love with her than anyone else could ever be. And I also think the car crash metaphor is a reference to how being around her makes him feel - I think he's the car crash. He feels tortured but he knows he won't ever stop loving her. |

I haven't bought the soundtrack or actually heard this song yet, but having read the books, the lyrics seem to me like they're describing Bella's feelings for Jacob in 'New Moon.' She knows she feels something for him, but she knows it isn't the same thing she felt for Edward, and she isn't sure whether it's just a sisterly affection or love (just not epic love-of-your-life love). She's confused. |

The first time I heard the song I liked it but I wasn't in love with it. I just thought, "yep, sounds like Paramore." But it's completely grown on me and I love it now, and I think it sounds great on the soundtrack. |

What is the 'you' referred to in the song? Is it God? There are so many ways this song can be interpreted. It makes me think of somre of Scott's post-Moffatts Boston Post songs. Big on the ambiguity. |

This is my favorite Moffatts song. It sounded awesome live, but I really wish it had made it onto a cd. |

There was an interview somewhere where they said this song was about drugs and how they can ruin your life.
However, Scott's opinions have clearly changed. Anyone with any doubts can take a look at his myspace. |

I don't know what this song means literally, but at a very dark time in my adolescence, I was able to relate it to my life. I was raped when I was 17 and my boyfriend at the time, who I was deeply in love with, didn't do anything to help me.
The lines "You will get yours" and "you have no right to ask me now, you were never that around" applied both to my boyfriend and man who raped me. I was also a virgin at the time, so the "What you save it what you lose out in the end" also had meaning to me.
Basically, this was one of the songs that was on repeat while I was drowning in depression and self-pity. This song is one of the songs that remind me of the darkest time in my life, but I still love it for giving me something to relate to. And it's still a truly beautiful song. |
