Amanda Palmer – Have to Drive Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I just thought it necessary to mention that when I was listening to this song, I had a car wreck and crashed through a barbed wire fence. I thought it to be perfect situational irony! haha |

yes, personally i feel like it references the war and violence. i totally agree with daretheghost. but i do think this entire cd is about high school and various lonely high school situations. this one, being a little more extreme though. you all sound like you've definitely got the gist of it, but when she's saying "making out to faces of death" i believe she's referencing the "faces of death" super violent movie series from the '70s-'80s, and for some reason i like that paradoxical imagery a lot. this is my favorite song on the album. |
The Mountain Goats – No Children Lyrics | 16 years ago |
When I first heard this song, being at a point in my life where I am faced with college choices and going next year after living in the same house all of my life, it reminded me of things that I am leaving, my reputation through life thus far, and the "wife" references toward my mother, and every other reference of a relationship toward my best friend who I do love so much, being upset with the current circumstances and growth we have both faced regarding our town. I know it doesn't have anything to do with this song really. After I read all the marriage references you all mentioned, it is obviously that. I just thought I'd share the feelings that I get towards this song, how it's kind of a comfort to all the stresses and the pace of life as it approaches me in these last few months before I have to go. |
