Can anyone tell me what the word "modern" contributes to the word "leper"? Why are these words together, what do they exactly refer to together ? And "And you are not ill And I'm not dead Doesn't that make us the perfect pair?" Why would that exactly make them the perfect pair? Because she's not ill, and he is still alive, so they're ready for a relationship? It would be better if he wasn't ill though. So why would that be perfect? Or is it moreover the feeling of waving away that he's (figuratively) ill, as if that doesn't matter to him/her to have a relationship? And also; "Well, this is how we do things now Yeah, this is how the modern stay scared So I cut out all the good stuff Yeah, I cut off my foot to spite my leg" Why "scared" ? Why "cut off his foot to spite his leg"? Why would that "spite his leg"? Which figuratively meaning is meant here? What does he mean with "cutting out all the good stuff"? What kind of good stuff, and why? To whom refers the singer when he says "the modern" ? All the modern lepers? He can't refer to himself, because of the "stay" instead of "stays". Pleeeaaase help me out! |

| I'm Dutch, and I'm not quite sure if there's any word for the words "to let it linger" in Dutch, so I don't exactly know what she means when she sings the sentence "Do you have to let it linger?". Can somebody describe what the Cranberries mean with "Do you have to let it linger?" ..? Is it something like, him not paying attention to their relationship anymore so that their lives go different directions, and she regrets the fact that he does that? I'm lost! | |

Volgens mij staat er op youtube een reportage over dit liedje van 3 voor 12. Moet je maar eens zoeken, is erg leuk om een keer te zien! hee.. ik wil niet horen wat de dokter dacht of wat je doet als het zo door blijft gaan ik wil niet weten wat dat geintje nou uiteindelijk nog heeft opgebracht.. Dit gaat over het feit dat de mensen het zo vaak hebben over ziektes die ze hebben. "Oh, en de dokter zei dit en dit, en dat, en dit .." is wat je dan altijd hoort. De man in dit lied wil dat allemaal niet horen, vooral niet wat er gebeurt als je je gedrag niet verandert "wat je doet als het zo door blijft gaan". Of wanneer dokters zeggen dat je "een vechter bent". De man in dit lied wil geen vechter zijn, kan niet vechten, dat is voor hem zo klaar als 'n klontje. De man in dit lied "wilt ook niet weten wat dat geintje nou uiteindelijk nog heeft opgebracht" Dat is iets wat naar Eriks mening ook veel gezegd wordt. Het refereert aan een citaat van zijn broer die in motoren handelt. Schijnbaar was die er benieuwd naar hoeveel het verhandelen van een type motor nou uiteindelijk heeft opgebracht, maar hij zag het eigenlijk als iets waar hij in eerste instantie nogal nonchalant over deed. Deze zinnetjes komen uit het alledaagse leven van Erik; wanneer hij in een wachtkamer zit of in de tram hoort hij ze, of wanneer hij in de supermarkt staat. Hij zegt dat hij erg goed is in onderwaterzwemmen. Daar kan hij goed nadenken, met alle stilte om zich heen. Maar het liefst zwemt hij in de zee, want daar zijn geen beperkingen, regels of badmeesters. Hij praat ook 'n aantal keren over de stad, die in brand staat, en de stad die 'zich dom houdt', ze tikt als een bom. Dit gaat over de jeugd die in Spanje die branden hebben gesticht in de tijd dat Erik de tekst voor dit lied schreef. Allemaal alledaagse dingen, maar zo geweldig verwoord. |
