ikutsu2001: When did Reznor say he was an atheist? He's said before that he was a very spiritual person. That's not to say that he's a Chrisitan, but he may have some sort of religious beliefs. For instance, the song I'm Looking Foward to Joining You Finally is about his grandmother.
Anyway, this song seems to be more about a sort of an everyman's fear. The speaker is struggling with a belief in God's existence, due to all the problems in the world. |

I'm pretty sure it's about a guy who would rather be masturbating than with a girl, hence the "there is nothing you can do that I have not already done to myself." There's some stuff I don't understand, but that seems to be what it's about... |

I think this song is about people who believe that they were created as superior beings and and believe they should kill all others. The most blatant examples of this is Columbine reference and the repetition of "I am the mastermind", but there seems to be other examples in the lyrics. |

I'm almost certain that this song is about "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" by C.S. Lewis. Anyone who has read the book would probably understand what I mean. For instance, there is a character (apparently a star banished from the heavens) who lives on an "island at the end of the world". There seems to be a few other references to the book in this song, but since I'm lazy, I'm going to neglect to mention them. |
