it's a man using the metaphor of a store item to show his longing to be with someone. a man who is a good guy and made to love, wants someone to love him, to 'buy him.' "I heard someone say that I’m here to meet your greatest needs Yet another day so prominently displayed" i love that part because it's him wondering why he's still alone when he has so much to offer. such a lovely song! |

it's about either a couple or two friends. one of which can't stand the other because they feel like the other is constantly mocking them. "It’s the way you say my name like you’re joking" "that's why i cover my ears when you talk to me" shows that the person can't listen to them anymore because all the person does is be negative and judge them. "So you sit there sister getting cold and lonely Camel lights to keep you warm" shows that the person keeps pushing people away until they're alone "You’re not gonna get very far with a smile like that" i think it might actually be 'song like that' but either way the narrator is trying to say if you don't change your attitude you're never going to get anywhere. you're always going to be alone and lonely. "You’re in a great big car now Polluting" seems to be trying to show that this person doesn't care about anyone but themselves. |

To me it's about a person who wears their heart on their sleeve and has been hurt a lot. because of this, they don't take any risks anymore. "I've had a lover I don't I'd risk another these days" they don't voice their mind anymore, don't gamble or take risks. "I've stopped my rambling I don't do too much gambling these days" They just sort of live their life like a zombie, just trying to get through each day. "I've stopped my dreaming I don't do too much scheming these days These days I sit in cornerstones and count the time in quarter tones to ten" The person realizes that they aren't living like they should, to the fullest. But they feel sorry for themselves and too scared to try any longer.
