Bon Iver – Flume Lyrics 2 years ago
This song is about a child’s love for their mother, and the experience of this love from within her womb.

Jason Mraz – The Remedy (I Won't Worry) Lyrics 2 years ago
The meaning for this one is more simple than we realize. Most of the song is his rambling worried mind- a lot of the lyrics won’t make sense because it’s a mess of his emotional thinking. The chorus sums it up though. He doesn’t want to worry his life away with all this rumination, he’s just going to be carefree. It’s actually a happy song. Despite all the anxiety and darkness in life, he ends up just deciding “hey I’m not going to worry about it” because he knows he can’t control all these things.

Wish I could be more this way.

Phantogram – Black Out Days Lyrics 3 years ago
Mirror on the wall, show me all the ways to stay away! She begs. She wants to break away from this person, this toxic habit. Even though she tries to block out their images of this thing/person, the thoughts still consume her.
She’s experiencing all these feelings of darkness and she’s not familiar with this side of herself. But she has to stay away, even though this depression feels like it’ll kill her.

Muse – Unnatural Selection Lyrics 5 years ago
This song is great for the current state of events in the American 2020 Presidential Election, however, the story in the song can be applied to many scenarios.

This song is from the position of a "loser"...as in, someone who lost the natural selection competition, or any competition for that matter. The theme of the song implies that the competition itself isn't fair, or just. Those who win this unnatural selection will pride themselves in being "better". When really, the competition itself feels unnatural - perhaps there was some interference of some kind.

If you apply this to the election, you could say that the loser of the election may suspect that there's been some meddling in the vote-count, and they demand the truth. It's only fair.

Snow Patrol – The Lightning Strike Lyrics 8 years ago
The instrumental background really gives this song a powerful feeling.
The build-up reaches a climax about halfway through the song, then it brings us back down to "reality" so to speak. Which, relates to the theme of the song: a relationship starts out fiery and exciting, he doesn't want this excitement to end, he always wants to see her in this light, absolute perfection. But as we know, that's not possible. Eventually the song comes back down to reality. Not saying things didn't work out, more saying that the fire dies down. But wow, what a ride. ::replays song::

John Mayer – Clarity Lyrics 10 years ago
I agree with the top comment.

Something to consider...
His last two lines "And I will waste no time, Remaining in our lives together"

I think perhaps this feeling of clarity he feels also helps him see the reality of a relationship he's in. A moment of clarity where he realizes "This isn't going to last. I'm certain of it." But you stay in the relationship anyway....

And sure enough, it doesn't last. But you aren't surprised, because all along the way you've had these moments of clarity.

Armin Van Buuren – Never Say Never Lyrics 11 years ago
Not sure of the meaning. But I really like this song.

Obviously it's about passionate love. Maybe it's unrequited. It seems that the vocalist is almost begging her lover to stay and to love her in return.

Miley Cyrus – Drive Lyrics 12 years ago
Based off rumors, and maybe truth, this is about a particular fight she had with Liam back in February 2013. Or, more so, the feelings that she felt after this particular fight.

It's pretty clear what it means. He wasn't fulfilling his end of the relationship, backing out of their commitment and possibly being unfaithful. She loved him but had to accept that he just wasn't in it for the long-run.

"And every street and avenue
Only one will lead me back to you"

Perhaps they're referencing suicide here. Maybe the lover she sings about has died. Romantic and heartbreaking.

I agree with you guys. Definitely a reflection of what "could have been" with her past lover.

I wonder, though, who is Rob? Her lover...a mutual friend?
Hm.

Lana Del Rey – Cola (Pussy) Lyrics 12 years ago
Well, it is mostly certainly about drugs - methamphetamine most likely.

Diamonds is slang for meth. Skid Row is a really scummy area in LA (lots of drugs float around here). Based off me watching Breaking Bad, I can assume the high from meth is extremely euphoric. Maybe meth makes everything taste sweet (like Pepsi cola), or maybe the crystal actually is slightly sweet itself.

Harvey is probably some older guy she hangs out with and gets high with; maybe he's married. Whoever he is, he is addicted to meth and just wants to get high with her all the time. She almost seems annoyed by this, so maybe she is just used to being high and he's a noob to it...or perhaps she is fighting the addiction.

"I fall asleep in an American flag" may indicate that she is living in or near Skid row, homeless and sleeping on the streets. "I pledge allegiance to my dad" seems like maybe he was an addict, too, which explains why she seems very familiar with the drug. Maybe she's into "men who are older" because she hung around her dad growing up, and all his drug-buddies. Maybe there was some sexual abuse from these men.

The chorus is likely the words she has used in the past (and present) to convince men to get high with her and just have fun.

Regardless, this song is amazing.

Coldplay – Clocks Lyrics 17 years ago
Closing walls and ticking clocks, cursed missed oportunities, confusion never stops.

We are all in a race against time to find self-identity. He says..."you are" but never says exactly what 'you are' because we will never know. Time isn't on our side. A Tiger waiting to be tamed...will wait...forever.

But that's just a matter of opinion. =]

oh, and to Killwestlife - it's okay to hate the music because it's shallow and uncreative. But, we all know we have our own opinions. Yes?

P.S. I'm also a Manson-fan.

I like it; it's catchy. But...I don't care much for young female celebs (esp. those Disney stars). They always start out cute, then get rich and nasty. I guess we'll just see where this one goes...I hope I'm wrong.

Holy Pepper, this is a great song.
I think it has to do with his fear of rejection, and then it becomes more personalized with one girl he's speaking directly to in the second verse. Or maybe there's a perspective switch in the song...like two people singing to eachother? Not sure, that's my guess.

Jack Johnson – They Do They Don't Lyrics 18 years ago
The sound of the beginning is what initially turned me on to this song, but then I listened to the lyrics.

The first paragraph says "Why'd you trust us?" -talking to God about the original sin. In a way, he is defending humans saying that we shouldn't be blamed for sinning because God was the one who made the forbidden fruit "taste so good".

The chorus gets me though, I'll admit. Perhaps he is reversing his argument and saying that despite our good intentions, we are selfish and sinful...and that it's not God's fault.

In the end, the future has no hope to being like it was in the very beginning of time, so we should stop trying to be something we're not...because in the end we say we will...and we won't.

Phew. Tell me what you think.
