The Enemy – This Song Lyrics 15 years ago
The Enemy are from Coventry, which is where I've lived all my life, and I can imagine them seeing the way life seems to go round here ("half the kids you grew up with were pushing prams by the time that they were just sixteen...half the kids that aren't pushing prams are pushing pills to boys and girls who are half their age") and reflecting on it and basically despairing at where all their dreams went (if love is a drug, then where is the cure for the girl who used to talk to you about her dreams" and making a comment on the way society is. Even if the things they're describing aren't a general trend thoughout like the whole of the UK there are parts of this city where this really is a way of life and they aren't exaggerating it.
On a personal note, this song always makes me think of Cov and "half the kids who (I) grew up with".

Jack Penate – Torn on the Platform Lyrics 16 years ago
I think it's London he's leaving, he doesn't want the big smoke (london) to leave him behind, which it will be doing as he's leaving on the train, and I think it's going from Waterloo. I love the song tho, and the way he sings it, he's the new Jam I think :)

Antsy Pants – Vampire Lyrics 16 years ago
It's actually "I have lost my mouth AGAIN"
as opposed to "I have lost my mouth organ"
but cute little song bless it :)

The Feeling – Blue Piccadlilly Lyrics 16 years ago
The lead singer of The Feeling (Dan Gillespie Sells) used to take 12 stops on the tube from Leicester Square to wherever he lived, on the picadilly line. Which is blue.
Anyway, I'd always wondered what it was about, but when I was listening to it and actually remembered how Dan said he wrote the song, it sort of fell into place, partly at least:
"I travelled beneathwards for you
Down where it's rumbling
Suburbs left crumbling"
That's basically him on the tube (beneathwards) where it's rumbling (the noise of the trains)
So I think its just him sitting on the tube thinking about this relationship, and the two are merging, its not very clear cut really, but its just a reflection of what he was thinking
And its the last song on the album (except the bonus track, miss you) and hes going home, so the two sort of fit together...the end of his journey, the end of the album.

The Feeling – I Did It For Everyone Lyrics 16 years ago
First one to comment!!! Yay!

I'm not sure what this song is about, I was hoping to read someone elses ideas before adding my own, but here goes:
I think it's about someone who publicly said or did something that others (their friends) were not comfortable with. That person has been "shunned" and is now alone. (I think "lost down the Thames" may refer to where the person's friends have all gone - it could relate specifically to a certain event I suppose?)
Their old friends are "whispering" and gossiping - "What have you done?" etc
The person is alone at the moment...
"where are your friends, silly thing"
To me "silly thing" is quite endearing really, it's what my mum might say really, so I think the songwriter is siding with the person
Even though they've been shunned, the person still thinks they did the right thing:
"and still you sing...I did it for me, I did it for you, I did it for everyone"
Although what they did has upset people they did it for the good of everyone and they wish that others could see that:
"Then all of the world would be singing it too."

So, that's my interpretation...what do you think???

The Fratellis – Ole Black 'n' Blue Eyes Lyrics 16 years ago
i think the reason the names come up again isnt cos its cryptic, its just that the fratellis write about their own experiences and lives, which will involve their friends...so there names (chelsea, tina etc) come up quite a lot as they were there while the events in teh songs were going on
also, chelsea refers to one of the bands wives i think, it was her stage name when she was a dancer possibly

apparently "chelsea" refers to one of the bands wives, it was her stage name when she was a dancer i think
and bluebird is a car, i think (barry stole the bluebird?)
the names lucy and rosie come up a lot in there songs as well
basically, i dont think there deliberately trying to be cryptic, but they just write about what and who they know and what they do, with these people
so there names will come up again and again cos its simply about their lives, and their friends

The Feeling – Rose Lyrics 16 years ago
I've sometimes thought that it may be the lead singer coming out as gay after his first gay relationship... (btw, he is gay)
the line
"pink is my colour, I won't drink from no other"
just seems a bit too much of a hint to me... he's realised he's gay and the colour pink is a sort of symbol of this
and he wont "drink from no other" ie hes going to stay gay
then again, i heard that it is actually about when they used to sit in their rehearsal shed drinking rosé :)
