A great song, I believe it to be about the imaginary scenarios found on TV and wasting a bunch of time watching it bringing you nowhere. "Stay glued to your TV set" definitely means get the hell out of the house for once. |

I see this song as life summarized. Going through the darkness (hard times) and sometimes bringing them upon yourself hence "lighting struck itself". "Listening to the rain, hearing something else" being all of the small things that act as reminders of your past and inevitably interpreting things differently than others.
Any life choices you make changing you as a person whether that be for better or worse is what I get out of "the kiss of death, the embrace of life" and the marquee moon is a metaphor for the passing of time although sometimes you get impatient. I believe the third verse to be about living your life cautiously under apathetic terms and the fourth to be about being in with the wrong crowd and going nowhere or always ending up back where you started.
Marquee Moon always gets credit for being a masterpiece as it rightfully deserves, but Adventure is a masterpiece in it's own right however many dismiss it as not living up to Marquee Moon's standards. Those people are missing out big time. |

These lyrics are very straight forward actually. Tom Verlaine does play on those homonyms though. In Elevation he goes from saying "Elevation" to "T-elevation" to "Television". |

I think this song is about resilience. Being faced with the issues of everyday life and falling down but getting back up hence falling into the "arms" of Venus DeMilo. The statue has no arms. So you fall down but you stand back up and "walk away" (keep moving on). Not feeling bad about hardship because it only makes you stronger and a wiser being. I believe the line "You know it's all like some new kind of drug" is a simile for seeing things in a new light after an experience. I find Verlaine's optimistic mindset portrayed in this song very pleasant considering most people only complain about their issues rather than being intelligent enough to learn from them. |

I don't think this song means a thing at all. I think it's an easy-listening song which you could associate with anything you'd like. |

I see it as a big "fuck you" to corruption in full circle. |

‘I am the Fly’, which became a signature tune of sorts, is another rehearsal of the 'outsider' theme, a supposedly defiant overturning of mainstream culture’s dismissing of the strange as the less-than-human.
