welllllllllll i see this entirely differently! Stephan starts off talking about being horny and burned out in this girl's summertime bacchanalian .......a bachanalian is a "drunken festivity", so they are drunk and having sex, then she walks away in the morning. stephan then says "it's always the fallen ones i think are always gonna save me" I don't see this at all as a girl on drugs, or a prostitute, or stephan wanting love from her- i see it as a girl who has really fallen for him, and stephan is taking advantage and using her. they hung out, he got her drunk, she has some type of love for him, and they had sex, then she walks away trying to make him think that it was nothing to her, as well. "i wanna get off one time and not apologize, you gotta steal the time from a life that's passing by" --he wants to get off and not apologize because if he does get off then he feels so shitty because he knows he was using her, then he tries to justify using her by being all "well life is short, you just gotta live it to the fullest" when she flexes her knees to abate the feeling, she's not trying to abate the sexual feeling, she's trying to abate the emotional feeling, or love, she feels for him "she stares at him so madly when he says "i was hoping you would be waiting there for me...." and etc, maybe he realized after time he did have some feelings for her but she moved on because she was tired of being used annnnnnnnnd so on she's got the nerve to say she wants to fuck that boy so badly"---here stephan is talking in 3rd person; and maybe as like a flashback to before they had sex- she started at him madly and because they were drunk, she had the nerve to tell him she wants to fuck him |

| I interpret it as two people are just fucking, and both are trying to get over someone else who must have reallu hurt them. when it says "you know i'd love you is i knew you'd let me down" just shows his cynicism towards love-he loved someone and she let him down. and that person is all he is thinking about in this new relationship and he knows they are using eachother, so he just wants to get out of it. | |

This is the most poweful Damien Rice song, ever. It makes me feel so much emotion in just 5 minutes. Everytime I listen to this song, I picture a scene of a couple. And it always reminds me of a relationship I was in a while ago. " Don't hold yourself like that You'll hurt your knees I kissed your mouth and back That's all I need Don't build your world around Volcanoes melt you down" -Right here the guy is basically saying "Don't hurt yourself over this, it was nothing, and you shouldn't make me your life when it's already over." I think the "volcano" is a metaphor to the relationship and how the girl is "melting down". "And what I am to you Is not real And what I am to you You do not need And what I am to you Is not what you mean to me You give me miles and miles of mountains And I ask for the sea" -Here the guy is telling the girl that he had a totally different outlook on the relationship than she did, and she doesn't need him because he doesn't feel the same about her. And what they had wasn't real, because it wasn't mutual. By him saying "you give me miles and miles out mountains but i ask for the sea" he's saying that she gives him everything, but he doesn't want it, he wants something else. My favorite part of the song is how the guy lets the girl retaliate and say her views of their relationship. "Don't throw yourself like that In front of me I kissed your mouth your back Is that all you need Don't drag my love around Volcanoes melt me down And what I am to you Is not real And what I am to you You do not need And what I am to you Is not what you mean to me" -Here the girl is telling the guy to not sugar coat things and just tell her the truth, that all he needed her for was to "kiss his mouth, his back" aka sex. She's telling him not to lead her on anymore because it's breaking her heart and wearing her away: "don't drag my love around, volcanos melt me down". Then she goes on to say again that their outlooks on their relationship was so different. "What I give to you Is just what I'm going through This is nothing new No, no, just another phase of finding what I really need Is what makes me bleed Like a new disease But lord she's still too young to treat" -The guy is saying back to the girl now that he really did have feelings for her but he is confused and he needs to figure some things out. (WHAT GIRL HASN'T HEARD THAT BEFORE?) The end is just the confusion that is going on in the guys mind, and he's telling the girl that she doesn't need him, and until he figures everything out she shouls just move on. I |
