The Ruse – Beautiful Is Gone Lyrics 16 years ago
Eh...it sounds kinda generic...I got it on the free download too...the chorus reminds me of that one Sum 41 song...exact same chord progression...

This analysis is ridiculous. How on Earth does it relate to the audience except for logical jumps in like TWO lines?

Now, granted, these posted lyrics are an awful butchering of the leaflet lyrics that came with the CD (which weren't even accurate themselves, being poorly translated) and whole parts are missing, but even so...anyone with any knowledge of Kyo or his life would feel embarrassed for you.

Just sayin'

Dir En Grey – Doukoku to Sarinu Lyrics 17 years ago
Ah, my, this has become one of my favorite Dir en grey songs of all time. It has this energy and this completeness about it. It showcases their new sound so well. When Kyo begins singing the second (extended) chorus, the sound all melds until it's this wall of harmony, overlapping to point of completion.

Millionaires – Talk Shit Lyrics 17 years ago
This song made me EXTREMELY depressed the first time I heard it. The fact that the girl shot her parents and/or shot herself to be released from her worldly pain is just SAD! I was bawling once while listening to it, after learning the meaning of it. It's a great song regardless...

Well, I finally got this album ^_^. Yay me, for procrastinating no longer! I was more impressed than I thought I was going to be. I need to listen to it a few more times before I can truly compare it to their other albums, but I think that this song was the best choice they could've made to open.

The first verse really speaks to me the most. How much pain do you have to be in before even the sun seems to pierce like thorns? It's pretty telling of not only Kyo-sama's pain but of the desperation of the lonely as well.

Kurenai (紅) and Kurai Ni (くらいに) are two different things altogether. Kurenai, yes, means "Crimson." Kurai ni, on the other hand, means like "to the extent of" and varies in context. Dimbo-san was correct in his translation (except for the "dark" part. Where did you get "dark" from?) I would translate it a little differently, but my translations are usually more fancy and less accurate/literal. I would translate it as,:

"The voice can't burst out to the extent it wants...Now, your spirit will be judged."

OMG, after hearing this song I am forced to re-evaluate my opinion of "Marrow." This song is AMAZING! Not quite as good as "Grief," but that's alright. I love the melody! =^_^=

Kind of reminds me of "Pinku Kira" from "Kisou"....hmm. I'm gonna go listen to "Kisou" now. Best album of theirs...

Dir En Grey – Grief (English) Lyrics 17 years ago
Dear God...this is my FAVORITE Diru song. That may get me a few eyebrows raised, but it is. Just from the beginning with the twin guitars, it hooks me every single time. And Devildo-san, if all you hear is "Fuck off" then I suggest you listen more closely. Each syllable he makes has its own pitch, uniquely emotional in its own way. The segment approaching the end, when he screams at several different octaves and volumes, is the crowning moment of the song. I can also feel like I'm part of him in his screams. He does it like no other, and I feel a closeness that no other singer has conveyed before, with a few exceptions on particular songs. Never before has a band connected with me on more than two songs. The first time I heard Kodou (I was sitting in my room writing) I just collapsed and wept when he did his two perfect, heart-wrenching, guttural, poetic, divine screams. I grew to appreciate songs like Dead tree and Saku more, and also the odder ones, like [KR] Cube and ZOMBOID. But his screams rank at the top of the list for why I love Kyo. And this song (I think the only really good song on Marrow) is his transcended, flawless, beautiful gushing of those dark humors of his. He bares his soul in his voice, telling of wounds with words, but showing and sharing them with his screams. I thank you, Kyo, for letting me take some of your pain for myself...

Ah, sigh. This song, with about a dozen others by Diru, makes me cry with alarming regularity. I love the Spanish guitar in the middle. ^.^(Me before) + DIRU!! = T.T (Me after)

Greycloud, I think he's either screaming "Loveless" or "Gasp for breath". I think the latter would make more sense, considering that it's repeated in the song, but when I sing it, I say "loveless" because I think it fits the context better.

To all the rest of you who have tried singing it, I finally managed to get it down! I've been trying to master a version of the song with only music and no vocals, but I suck at it. Planning on putting a youtube video at some point, but don't know when. Anyway, yeah, the lyrics are difficult, and because I'm not a native Japanese speaker, I have trouble with the quicker-pronounced syllables. From "Omae...nan darou ze" it's a bit of an effort, but the rest comes easy.

Ahh...This song is all-encompassing...You have all made such good points, but there is no describing genius like this song. You can't hope to classify lyrics, because then the music is left out. You can't dream to rationalize music because then the lyrics won't fit. Here's my challenge:

Find a ten-minute break
Bust out the Bose headphones
Close your eyes
Try to hear every single element of the song (drums, bass, guitar, vocal)
Let your mind be enveloped by the perfect sonic harmony of this song.

Dir En Grey – Audrey (English) Lyrics 17 years ago
Oddly enough, I didn't find this song to be all that great. Now, before you all bite my head off, let me say that it's fucking Dir en grey which means that every single song is damn brilliant. A comparison I used when discussing with a friend is like picking the worst out of a basket of Faberge eggs. You can't do it. But in relation to the rest of Diru's work, I find this a little stale. I really like the sort of "Western" theme to the music. That's how it sounded to me, anyway. I just can't fully appreciate this after listening to the Behemoth of -MACABRE ~ Ageha no Hane no Yume wa Sanagi-......

Oh Kyo...what a strange man you are...

You know, to tell the truth, this song utterly perplexes me. I haven't listened to it enough to even hope to understand. You win this round, Diru!!!

Damn, love this song. Tied for favorite with "Filth" and "Embryo" on the album. This song has such a great switch from Kyo's breathy falsetto to the head-banging chorus. It melds perfectly and I think that it really showcases their talent.

As for the meaning of the song, I have a couple theories. In agreement with Gothique-san, I concur that this is one meaning. To add on to that, though, I think Kyo is playing both the victim and the "killer" simultaneously. In the chorus, he talks about being a "child fragile as glass" and how he stabs himself with the fragments...of himself. I thought that was a nifty little play there. Anyway, what I think is that although he enjoyed the pain on himself, he also wanted to have others feel his pain. Hence, the "killer" persona. But on the flip side, you could argue that he's the victim watching his own death, totally getting off on his own brutal murder. Kinda interesting, I think....

Dir En Grey – 24ko Cylinder (English) Lyrics 17 years ago
I feel so bad commenting after the masters like Riyukko-san and Child_preyx-san. I feel like my comment is worth less because of length...

Where to begin? I LOVE THIS SONG! I received both Kisou and MACABRE for my birthday (back in March) and I have fallen ridiculously in love with them. Kisou, I think, has more of an "anytime listen" feel to it, while MACABRE is brooding and you need to hear the whole thing in one go to make sense of it. Anyway, this song really captured me and stood out, being the dense emotional beast after rocker Kigan and choppy ZOMBOID. I was impressed by Kyo's emotional range on Withering, but this blows it away. Hearing Kyo almost cry at the end actually made me cry (so did -Mushi- later on). He just jam-packs so much into his performance. I really admire him. One thing in particular I noticed, though, is that on the very last line, we can actually hear the word for nothing (mu?) being spoken. It's like he hasn't wanted to say it up til now, but he has no choice, a bitter realization that X-person that the song is directed to has nothing to give him back...

He's saying "Kyo, Kyo, wrist cut show!" It's a pun, you see. Kyo translated can mean "hurry" but it also refers to Singer Kyo's habitual self-mutilation as part of a stage act.
