Scott's lyrics are cryptic at best, though harmonically they fit brilliantly. The commonly recognised opinion (wikipedia sums it up nicely) is that this song was indeed about a murder and/or rape victim known to the author, and also a metaphor for a failed relationship. Makes sense; I haven't personally had anyone I know die (especially in such a brutal manner), but the same questions of 'what if...' would probably come to mind. |

I think Slayer could explain 'payback' more lyrically than I ever could: http://www.songmeanings.net/lyric.php?lid=35592 Very basically, it's revenge. |

Has anyone thought that the reference to god in this song need not be to the god worshipped in most popular religions? Think alien abductions, and even beyond that, think alien creationalist theories... These beliefs aren't my own, but the lyrics do seem to fit, even if you want to use the term 'hypnagogic' (master exploder, I'd be interested to hear how you came to be in that state...). These guys seem to have a knack for putting across some 'interesting' views (Angel of Death is an obvious example) - love 'em, love the song. |
