I really think that the lyrics are "you tested your mettle" not "you tested your metal" although they are homonyms, and it wouldn't really change the song if you were singing it, when you're thinking about the meaning of the song, mettle makes a lot more sense than metal does. |

"To me it is just too pessimistic." Wouldn't it be optimistic, because he wants her and he is just wanting her to love him.. To me, your view that "you cannot have everything you want in life" is a bit more pessimistic :) But anyway, it's definitely about someone who has just gone through a bad break up and is still in love with his ex. |

The first time I heard this song the first thing I thought it was about was someone emigrating to a new country and making a new name for herself... that may just be me, but it just has that 'new world discovery' type of feeling to me... Anyway, I love her voice.. the only reason I would group her with Feist and Regina Spektor would be because she's a folk-y female artist.. otherwise their sounds are all entirely different.. hah |
